Adobe Digital Editions vs. Calibre

Does Calibre do the same thing as Adobe Digital Editions? That is, serve as an intermediary between downloading a book onto from your computer and moving it onto your Nook?

Not really. Calibre can store your eBooks, but it can't unlock them (unless you strip DRM). Anything with DRM will still need to be unlocked with ADE.

Re: Adobe Digital Editions vs. Calibre

Also, you still need ADE to GET your books from a system that uses ADE.

For instance, when you check out a book from the library they send you a special "key" file that ADE then uses to request, download, and control the book.  Calibre can't do anything with this key file so the book would never get to your computer.
