When I first got the nook I was able to connect no problem. But then a few weeks later for some reason the router lost internet connectivity. So I reset it to factory defaults and reinstalled the router from scratch and fixed the problem. I was able to connect another device to the router no problem (using wi-fi protected setup), but have not been able to connect the nook.
I tried forgetting the connection and connecting by entering the network security key but it would just say "disconnected". So I disabled wireless security, so the network was now open. Now when trying to connect it gets as far as "Obtaining IP address" but then fails. I can connect to someone elses open network that I can see. My firmware is 1.0.1.
Thanks for any help.

Update your Nook to firmware 1.1.2. This version improved the Wifi connection.

Since getting the upgrade I have absolutely no problems connecting to any hotspot. Prior to the update I had to have 5 bars or more to connect. Now I can have a weak signal and still connect.

I was able to fix the problem. I basically had to go back and forth a few times restarting the nook and turning off and on my wireless router security settings.
About upgrading the firmware, I would also like to root the devices as well. Can I root the device and then upgrade, or do you have to upgrade first then root? Just wondering whether upgrading the firmware will wipe out the rooting. Thanks
