Hi,
Whenever you plug the nook touch into your comp to charge or copy a few ebooks into the internal storage, the nook forgets all the last page read of the other ebooks in the nook.
steps to reproduce:
1. plug nook into comp
2. copy some ebooks into the internal storage or sd card (optional)
3. unmount and unplug.
All your last page reads on the nook will be forgotten and they will all start from the cover or the tocs.
Can you fix this?
Thanks

Sorry, but I cannot reproduce this problem on mine.
You could try a complete shutdown/restart and see if that helps.

Same here, it forgets all last pages read, sometimes even without hooking it up to the PC! the "Reading Now" feature always takes me to the cover of the book, I always have to be careful I bookmark where I'm reading.
If I go to the Library and click on the book I was reading it takes to the last page read most of the time though.

mine's the opposite... all my ebooks are saved in memory card. after deleting everything and putting them back in.. i was surprised that nook still remembers the last page read.

I get faded W's too, but when I change the font, the W issue is fixed.

I am having the same issue with my Nook simple touch reader. Whether I have plugged the Nook into my computer or not, it cannot remember which page I am on when I press the reading now icon in the top left corner or if I press the book cover on the home screen (which always says page 1 which is not true). I have tried bookmarking my page, turning my Nook off, then straight back on with no avail. This is obviously a very annoying problem for avid readers. If I am in the middle of a 300 page novel, I don't want to have to scan around for my page each time. Barnes & Nobel needs to address this issue with a firmware update as soon as possible. From reading the forums it seems like it was a problem with the original Nook as well. Stop sweeping the issue under the rug and give your loyal readers what they need!

Forgotten last page when going to the settings menu, connecting to a PC. Very annoying. Problem confirmed (in FW 1.01)

Same issue here. The problem does not happen always, but definitely it's happening to me. It seems to be more prone to the issue when the book is stored in the external storage card. In some cases the home screen shows "Reading page 1 of 1" instead of the real page number and the total number of pages.

Is this issue ever going to be addressed? I've been with live chat and phone support multiple times on this. Been through the whole deregister and hardware reset with the power button and 2 bottom side buttons to fix it, which sometimes it does right away, sometimes it takes 5-6 tries or more... but always comes back after a random period of time.
What's especially frustrating is that when I finally had enough of trying to fix this problem, phone support said I could set up for a replacement, but that would require giving them a credit card number (my cards are maxed out at the moment, bills and all) and they'd send out a box to return my nook so their engineers can try to determine if it's a hardware issue. If it is determined to not be a hardware issue, I'd be charged. Now for an issue that can not be guaranteed to be replicated after a factory reset, this is highly frustrating. So for now, I appear to be stuck with a nook with issues since I can't afford to have them play russian roulette with my credit cards for a nook I've had to fix 4 times already.
Oh... and the best part, the live chat agent asked me why I would be connecting my nook to my computer. Bloody brilliant... how else am I supposed to add my personal ebook collection to my nook. /facepalm

I had this issue with sideloaded books on mine. I've started using Calibre to transfer my books from my computer to my Nook, and I haven't had any problems with my Nook forgetting pages ever since. You might want to give Calibre a try.

Calibre has always been involved, and if by sideloaded you mean an SD card, don't have one of those yet, though one is in the mail.

Oh, and I should add that one of the first things I do after a factory reset is actually test it with the nook users guide to see if it will keep the page since if it is going to fail, it will fail on that one.

When I have seen this problem, page 1 is displayed next to the Reading Now cover image and tapping on that image takes you to page 1.
The icon in the top left corner for Reading Now (pp 21/102 in the manual on your nook) and taping on the books icon in the library both take me to the current page being read. Once the book has been opened again the correct page number is displayed on the Home screen again.
I haven't noticed this on the first N2E we purchased since the 1.01 update and have never seen it on the one purchased this month.
Is this what is happening to you or is the nook forgetting the last page read for every book in your library regardless of how you access it?
Regarding a replacement and your credit card;
They request a credit card for Rapid Replacement. The credit card is only used if you fail to return your nook within the specified time limit. When I returned a unit around Xmas it looked like the unit would not arrive on time so I called to inform them. They granted an extension on the time limit and my card was never charged.
Your other option is to get the shipping label from them, send the nook in and when they receive your nook they will send out a replacement. This option takes longer and leaves you without an eReader for a few weeks.

Well, a rapid replacement was definitely not offered, this was we send you box, if you don't send nook back in time we charge you, then we examine it, if there's not a hardware issue according to our tests, we charge you a service fee.
Also this is definitely not a problem on most n2e's from what I've seen on the forums, so not sure why certain ones are doing this, but it can't be reliably forced to start happening. But I've tried different ways of opening the books, from library, from reading now, etc. It dumps all information including the order of books read. Basically, it keeps information like fonts and system settings, but information about the books I'm reading gets dumped.
I was listening carefully for the type of service offered since I had some familiarity with how it works from when I used to do iPod phone support. Basically, I'm very bothered that I could be looking at getting charged for a problem than can take over a week to manifest itself, but is intermittent on when it happens if a factory reset will fix it again.

Torinb, if you live near a B&N, you might want to see if you can do an in-store exchange. The manager at the store where I bought mine told me if I ever have a problem I could just get my nook exchanged there. I think it depends on the store and its policy, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Otherwise, you could PM one of the admins and see if they can help.

That is definitely on m to do list, just have to save up for the trip... bills are eating up most of my cash, and it's an hour drive out to the nearest one. Hoping a manager will allow for it. :-)

Hi torinb,
It sounds like you've had a heck of a time dealing with our support channels. I'm sorry for all of the confusion but, we definetly won't charge you a "service fee" to look at the hardware.
The only instance we would ever charge your CC would be, if a replacement device was shipped to you and your original defective device was not returned to us within 14 days. Which is what gstone was referring to with our rapid replacement.
Again, sorry for all the confusion. If you would like, please PM with your account specific info (email, serial number) and i'll be happy to look into this for you.
Thanks!
