My Nook Simple Touch is Frozen But Responds a Bit, What to Do?!! Please Help

[ Edited ]

So I bought my nook simple touch about five months ago and I went to school today and when I got back and tried to unlock it the screen froze for just a second and then the screen became a lot of lines running across it with just a little surface at the top that is actually readable.

This is a photo Photo2780.jpg

As you can see a lines run across it and only a few parts of the screen are readable. I don't know what to do. I have only tried turning it on and off but it remained the same.

I don;t know what to do. I bought my nook at walmart because where I live it is a very small town and there are no barnes and nobles so I don't know if I have a waranty and the walmart waranty expires after like 14 days. I also don't have the reciept so please tell me what I can do.

I don't have any money to buy another one or anything like that so please don't suggest that...

Edit: I have never dropped it and it has never gotten wet. I take very good care of it so I don't think bad care of it is the problem.

Try calling 1-800-THE-BOOK. They are the customer support line. If it's something covered under the manufactor's warranty, they will replace it.

You can give this a try ... it's from the user guide:

If for some reason your NOOK becomes unresponsive, you can perform a soft reset to restart the device.
1. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds, then release the power button.
2. Press the power button again for 2 seconds to turn on your NOOK.

It may not do any good, but it can't hurt ...

the warranty on the Nook covers manufactures defects for 12 months from date of purchase, no matter where it was purchased from.

Thank you to all! I tried turning it on and off a few times and it didn't work so I guess I'm going to call customer service and see what happens from there. Thank you all very much for your suggestions.
