So I have been using my new NSTGL for 6 days now and last night the screen began to load much slower. The screen flashes every single time the display changes and the text is jumbled. I live near a B&N what are the chances they will just let me swap it out for a new one? Thanks!

They might, if they have stock. It seems that right now the process is that if the unit is defective, you can return it and then order a new one, because they're out of stock at most stores.

You didn't say if you did, but, try a different book and see if it happens there.
Epubs are a collection of HTML files all linked together. You may have a book that's put together wrong and you just hit that spot. I don't really think that's your problem but it's worth a check. I wouldn't want one bad book to make you think your unit is defective.
Also, try archiving and reloading the book. Publishers have been known to quietly replace files due to construction issues.

I visited the B&N and compared my Nook with the displays and decided that my problems did not warrent a return and left. Now, I have been reading again and the problems seems to be getting worse I can see the previous screen lingering lightly behind my current screen and this is very annoying while reading. Good thing I live very close to the store because I'll be heading back again tomorrow for a replacement.

You MAY want to look at the Nook Color.
E-ink is very different than a screen that paints with light.
E-ink is really a super etch-a-sketch with bits of black and white floating in a sphere. An electrical pulse moves them up or down (the back-side of your screen is a negative image of the front).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-ink
That makes it a lot slower to update (which causes a bit of "flash" with every screen) and does lead to some ghosting. Amazon dealt with this by doing a super-flash hard-reset on every page (annoying as all heck) and B&N deals with this by doing the reset only every 5 or 6 pages (but trades SOME ghosting). Personally, I just compare it to a paperback book which often shows bleed-through and try to not compare it to a screen which doesn't.
You may have a problem with your particular Nook, but you might not be happy with any e-ink display.
