Nook Simple Touch Software Updates

Are there any software updates coming out for the Nook Simple Touch?

I had the first edition and I think I like that one better.

The simple touch has some issues that need to be resolved.

Re: Nook Simple Touch Software Updates

There have been a couple of updates, with 1.1.2 being the latest for the NST. It was released a few months ago, IIRC. At this point, I'm not expecting any more than point releases, though I'd happily be surprised. Ongoing support for the NSTG might trickle back to the NST, but I've not seen anything about the NSTG's 1.1.5 being made available for the basic NST.

Do you think B&N is preparing to phase the NST out? I have both e-readers and believe that both devices are good in their own categories. An update for the NST would be greatly appreciated.

I think B&N is trying very hard to win the hardware race.  It would not surprise me at all if they're hard at work at rushing to market a new color nook with an e-ink, liquavista, mirasol, or some other color reflective screen.  This is why I think we haven't seen any really great updates to the NST.

Or, they're hard at work at a really, really big update that will make massive changes to the NST/NSTg software.

I tend to think of the Glow as a minor hardware upgrade to the NST.  Sort of 2.1 to the NST's 2.0.  I don't think they'll phase out the NST until they've got a 3.0 hardware solution.

I'm expecting the NST to revert to "maintenance mode" with few, if any, new updates. The NSTG is a worthy successor, and selling at near the same price point. From what I'm reading here, the screen contrast issues seem to have been worked out, or at least minimized to acceptable levels, in recent units.

At this point, only a significant release for the NST would interest me. I've customized my rooted NSTs to the point that I don't even see the B&N store, library or reader anymore. If something spectacular did come out that improved those apps, I'd definitely give it a look.

Re: Nook Simple Touch Software Updates

Don't you think that the software is similar enough that any change made to the NSTg could automatically be applied to the NST (other than changes to the glowlight functionality, of course)?  That's kind of what I'm expecting - changes will roll out to both b/c there's little additional effort involved in adding NSTg changes to the NST.

Will someone from B&N comment? NST still has shelf problem. Do we give up or is something coming?

Re: Nook Simple Touch Software Updates

I don´t want to. The bookmark mangling for side loaded content is really terrible. I´m reading a book and don´t have bookmarks. I close it, open another and the bookmarks of the first book appear. I hope they do solve this, it´s really annoying.

Re: Nook Simple Touch Software Updates

I understand eventually not working to update OLD products, but the NST is only one year old. Even Apple supports product longer. Since the NST and the NSTG are so similar would it really be that hard to support both with the same update? Having the NST ignore Glow commands shouldn't be that hard. Other software companies do this all the time. Many Apple Apps support both the iPhone and iPod Touch with the same App but the Touch ignores the phone parts of the code. Just my two cents.
