Nook unresponsive while stuck on "installing" screen

I know someone who has a nook simple touch and yesterday a screen popped up on it that said "installing, a new software update is being installed. This will take a few minutes. Please don't update your Nook! We're updating critical systems." The screen is still there today and won't go away, even when we tried holding the power button down, (my Nook screen was frozen and i tried this and it worked) but the Nook is still unresponsive. Is this normal? Should we wait and see what happens or try and get someone to look at it?:smileyfrustrated:

Re: Nook unresponsive while stuck on "installing" screen

Have you tried to plug in the nook and let it charge for a while?  If the battery went dead while that screen was up, it will remain until the nook has enough of a charge.  eInk screens don't require power to keep an image displayed.

Re: Nook unresponsive while stuck on "installing" screen

My friend just plugged the charger into his Nook and it worked! We should have thought of that... :smileyvery-happy: Anyway, thanks for helping us!

Re: Nook unresponsive while stuck on "installing" screen

Thanks for giving me the heads up! I'm still kinda new at this posting thing and am still figuring out how all of this works... :smileyembarrassed: Just to prove this, i accidentally marked the second post as the solution and not the first. Geez! Well, i'll get the hang of it someday. Once again, thanks, to both of you!
