Starting up my Nook simple touch wifi issue

So I got the nook simple touch in the mail today and I pluged it in and left it till it was fully charge. And now I'm going through the set up process and I put the password in for the wifi and it says it remembers it but it wont connect. I dont know much about computers so if anyone could please give me some simple things to follow it would be helpful. I would talk to Barns & Noble for support but I'm getting fed up with all this.

Re: Starting up my Nook simple touch wifi issue

Please post what type of router you have and what security you are using on your router.

Also, you could do a search (the serach box is in the top left).  There are a lot of threads on connecting the NST (aka N2E) to the router that can help you.

Re: Starting up my Nook simple touch wifi issue

I have verizon fios. All the answers I could find are for people that have gone through all the steps and are able to use their nooks. I just got this one and havent even been able to register it yet. And I said simple answers. I dont understand what they are talking about in the other messages.

Re: Starting up my Nook simple touch wifi issue

Well, then, it looks like you're going to have to wait for everyone else to wake up tomorrow morning.  I'm not familiar with that router, but I know the setup on that one is specific to that router, so all I'd be able to tell you is what those other posts said.

I do know that there was a problem with that router and the previous software version, and the nooks don't always have the latest software out of the box.  If you have either a B&N store or a starbucks near you, you could take the nook there, register it, and make sure that the latest software version is installed.  This may fix your issue without you having to do anything else.

Re: Starting up my Nook simple touch wifi issue

Elsbeth, I agree with Keri. Your Nook probably came with the older version of software that has a known problem connecting to that particular router.

First, complete your registration. If you don't have a convenient B&N store where they can help you, then any wifi hotspot should do: Starbucks, McDonalds, etc., etc.

After that, you can take your Nook back home and manually update its software to the new version that will work with your router. Go to the Nook Simple Touch software update page and click where it says Get Version 1.1.2 Today. Follow the 9-step instructions revealed there.

Once you've done that successfully, you should have no trouble logging into your home network. Good luck!

Re: Starting up my Nook simple touch wifi issue

Or (second-guessing myself here) you might just try updating the software manually, as in my previous post, without first completing the registration. I don't know whether or not there would be or could be any adverse consequences. I don't think so, but I'm not sure. The risk would be yours. Maybe someone with more in-depth technical knowledge can chime in here to say positively one way or the other.

Re: Starting up my Nook simple touch wifi issue

Thanks to all of you who advised to update the Simple Touch Nook to the 1.1.2 upgrade. I got the nook for my daughter and it has been a nightmare gettting it connected to our Wifi! Thanks to you all, I finally have it working and after 3 days of trying to figure this out, the suggestion to update was brilliant!
