I've searched the forums and actually created a profile because I couldn't find what I needed. I have an older wireless n router that uses WPA/PSK for security. I do not have the option for WPA2. My son's Nook simple touch stopped connecting to our wifi. I have called customer support and even though I was fustrated but I followed all the direction they gave me, I was frustrated because I had already tried them all myself. They were unable to do anything for me other than repeating what I had already attempted, and then suggested I go to a store for support. This thing is I can cannot using my cellular hotspot just not my wifi. I am not sure when this started occurring, but my son has had his nook since May of 2010 with no issues. He does not need to connect to the wifi often because he has numerous books already on his nook to read. I did apply the 1.1.0 update when it came out.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As it stands right now based upon my research is to purchase a new router, which I would prefer not to do!
My router: Netgear WGR614v6 with the latest firmware version 2.0.19
Additionally I have a NookColor with the latest update of 1.4.1 software, that has no problems connecting to my wifi, nor does my various computers, PS3's, Droid's, and Palm phones.
Thanks.

I use WPA Personal without any issues with my Nook Simple touch, are you saying that support said it was the security you are using? Try searching the boards, there have been discussions about those who are having problems connecting and some possible solutions. On the other side, my mom has a netgear router and she couldn't connect her NST until after installing the 1.1.0 update.
And I assume that's a typo that he's had the NST since May 2010 and should be May 2011, since the NST was released until May 2011.

Ok, so I went to the store and spoke to the guy who sold me the nook. He asked me what kind of router I had and when I said Netgear, he was like well that's your problem right there. Opted to go ahead and get a new router, mine was not just old but rather ancient, everything connects just fine now. I can't say for certain but seems to me that it was indeed the WPA as if the Nook does not have the backward capability from the WPA2.

It's not WPA in and of itself because all 3 of my Nooks connect fine to my router that is using WPA. Heck, my mom's NST connects to her Netgear router using WEP.

I just ran into this problem tonight when trying to purchase a new book. I also have a netgear router that's about 2 years old and I just changed my security from WPA/WPA2 to just WPA and now it connects just fine. Not sure what the deal is, but I'm pretty disappointed with barnes and noble customer service. I was on the phone with them for an hour trying to figure it out when all I had to do was go online and read some forums to figure out a solution.

Except your problem/solution is exactly the opposite of the OP. She had to change to WPA2 to get hers to connect, you have to change from WPA2 to WPA. My mom's works fine with WEP, mine works fine with WPA. While I admit, B&N CS leaves a lot to be desired at times, in this case, there's no rhyme nor reason nor logic to this, except for them to tell you to try all the different security settings on your router and see which one works.

Just "buying a new router" is not a solution. I can't connect to my wifi at home either which means that I'm less likely to hook up to my computer and buy your products. Here's hoping you find a patch soon to what the newest update muffed.

I agree that just buying a new router is not a resolution to the issue. Initially I was against getting a new router and the only reason I went ahead and purchased one is due to the age of my old router. When I went to the store and spoke to the tech he told me their is an issue with the Netgear routers and the nook simple touch. I spoke to him regarding the settings and he informed me of everything that has been laid out here on the forum and additionally an issue with the Mbps, he suggested that for some nooks changing the setting to 54 Mbps resolves the issue.

So I've read the thread. I also had the ST running with WPA/PSK. My router died and I got a new one 2 days ago also running WPA/PSK. Completely identical setup. Every wireless unit I own had no trouble connecting including my daughters Nook Tablet. However, my ST can grab the access point, but won't go online. I have turned it off. Shut down the wireless. Reconnected everything and still nothing. I'm interested in the 54 MPS change I just need to know how to do that on the Nook. Please and Thank you.

I think that the suggestion must have referred to changing the router's maximum speed setting to 54 mbps. As far as I know, it's not possible to change the NST's wireless speed.

My WiFi router just changed recently to a modem/router combo from Frontier. It is a Westell 7500 model.
It is set to WPA2 security. I don't like messing with the router settings, especially since the router isn't the problem. All my other devices work fine. The local B&N 'Nook tech" told me to try a less secure WEP setting, but not only do I not want to do that, but my router does not have that security setting.
I'm not that tech savvy, so come on B&N, get it fixed!!
