I saw this afternoon that new Kindle 2 ereaders are "temporarily" out of stock. The last time I recall a Kindle being "out of stock" was immediately before the Kindle 2 was unveiled. Any thoughts? I know some of y'all must have some conjecture. ![]()

I was just on Amazon and saw an ad for Kindle DX. It seems larger, $379, and with an e-ink screen.

The DX is larger, I think it has a 9.7" screen and has the Pearl e-ink screen. The 6" Kindle is roughly the size of the Nook and it's out of stock.

I looked at the new kindle recently and it's huge! It also still does not accept additonal memory. How can you make a device that is 10.4" x 7.2" and still not accept a micro sd card?

Just curious, why would having a memory card be so important? I know I wouldn't have over 1500 books on my ereader at one time plus, for such a large unit, I couldn't see doing audio books on it. I would rather have a small ipod for something like that.

4 gigs is probably large enough for books but not if you want to add Audible content or music. It's not nearly large enough. I've heard rumors that the K3 will be thinner. I'm wondering if that would preclude having a micro sd card. If a Kindle 3 had that capacity, that would be a significant improvement.

I am not sure how the 1500 book number was arived at, but I have fewer than 300 books and magazines on my nook and I am at 70%. I don't have music on it at all. I just ordered the memory card - just in case.

Someone on Ebay is asking $1,999.99 for a brand new Kindle 2. (Search for Amazon Kindle Ebook EReader w/Upgrades NIB Free Ship) The sad thing is, some idiot will probably buy it. People never cease to amaze me. ![]()

Magazines can take up alot of space but are you 70% full or 30% full?

concurring with JdiennoPSU. Look at the heading. The 70% is "Available Memory".
Which is why mine say's 99%. I have three books on my nook right now (I archive everything I'm not actually reading).
how to use Adobe Digital Editions generally / How to put library books on your nook

I play dungeons and dragons. I have every book available in pdf format, equaling 16gigs of space. Currently, this collection is on a micro sd card. Even if I did not have the d&d books, I think it's a matter of mental security. I would not want to pay $400 for an eReader and have it run out of room, no matter how much it says it can hold. I can't imagine it would cost that much more to add the feature that would give people piece of mind about storage capacity.

Additional Points:
1) Manga (and comics) is becoming more available... My daughter has 2 currently and it's almost 400MB for the two of them.
2) All my sideloaded content is on my micro SD card, if I need to reset or replace my nook I don't have to sideload everything again.

Number 2 is an interesting point. If the Kindle had a micro SD port, taking a memory card from one reader and using it on another wouldn't work. Books are encoded to the device/app and not to a CC number. That's very handy. ![]()

Amazon has two totally different Kindles, the Nook sized Kindle 2 and the larger DX, the DX has a new version out with the newer screen, it's not a new line...
It appears the K3 (Nook sized) is about to hit if history holds...

"We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information." (Quoted from K2 page)
I think so too...that statement is vague for a reason.

I wouldn't doubt that there's a new Kindle on the way. When Amazon bought Woot, the product they had for sale on the very next day was the Kindle 2, brand new not refurbished, for $159 I believe. Usually when something like that happens (they have a bunch of iPods, Kindles, etc), it means to me that somebody's clearing their warehouse for new product.

The ones at Woot were refurbished Kindle2 US (Sprint) and they sold for $109.95 (!) Yes, it does look like they're cleaning out.

It was brand new, but we were both wrong on the pricing: $149. Check out the Woot blog & forum posts from 7/1/2010 to confirm.

In fact, Amazon has a Warehouse Deal on the K2 for $169.99...
I can't wait till this comes out, it will give us a glimpse into the future of Nook... Pricing, screen, etc...

ireaderreview on July 14th:
"Not sure exactly what Amazon is doing with the $110 Refurbished Kindle 2 (US version) – However, stock for the refurbished Kindle 2 has varied between Sold Out and Available throughout the day.
There are reports of availability between 8 am and 9 am PST and at around 4:40 EST. This is after it was sold out for most of yesterday and available most of Monday."
Edit: Removed the hyperlink...
Edit2: That was an Amazon "Warehouse Deal," not Woot. My bad. ![]()
