B&N abandoning Nook 1st edition support???

[ Edited ]

Yesterday I bought a used (but like-new) Nook 1st edition w/ 3G for $75 (w/ cover) and registered it.  When I go to the B&N web page for my Nooks (I also have a NT/16GB), it shows the image for the NT, but for the older Nook it shows a title of "Unknown Reader" and the image below:

Doesn't B&N have space on their web servers for old Nook images, or is this a way to make owners of Nook 1st editions believe that their older Nooks are being abandoned by the company?  If they've "lost" the image, here's one from another location on their web site:

In a further "tribute" to B&N's management of their web site information for customers, there's also a "notification" that my credit card has expired (on Jan 1, 1970).  Of course, clicking on the link to update my credit card info, shows both credit cards as unexpired, with correct expiration dates in 2014 and 2015.

I get a face on image of a Nook First Edition, but I think the image is Photoshoped since it shows a "page" from a book while showing covers on the color LCD instead of the usual menu.

This is a setting you can set.

Do you have the WiFi-only version or the WiFi+3G version?

I see the same message that my credit card has expired in 1970, but my original 3g image posts correctly.

The WiFi only version. Bought around the middle of 2011.

I don't see the point of showing multiple covers while displaying a page from a book on the main display.

I think I was wrong.  You can set the display to show multiple covers, but I don't think that is in effect when reading a book.

Re: B&N abandoning Nook 1st edition support???

The "Unknown Reader" issue has been happening since the mynook website came into existence.  It happens to some people and not to others, and it doesn't mean anything other than that B&N doesn't know how to code the site properly.

I get the same picture and "unknown reader" ever since I got my replacement nook.  I have been on the phone 3 different times in the last 6 months and they tell me they are working on it.

No change.

Here's the correct image:

Here's B&N's image (on their own site) for an unknown reader:

Mine also still shows the 'Unknown Reader".
