Re: BEWARE OF ONLINE SCAM - "The Reading Site"

Unfortunately they do take paypal, after unsuccessfully trying to take advantage of the Reading Site's "money back guarantee by not having them reply to my request, I contacted paypal and opened a dispute against the merchant "Pilmus" mentioning the site did not answer my correspondence, and a simple search on the internet will show that others have been scammed. This was the response Paypal sent me.

"Dear xxxxx xxxxxxx,

We have concluded our investigation into this case. Unfortunately, at this
time we are unable to decide this claim in your favor.

How much of an investigation do you think they did? If they received an answer from Pilmus they never forwarded it to me. At this point I can't say too much for paypals "buyer protection" claim."

Re: BEWARE OF ONLINE SCAM - "The Reading Site"

I, too, purchased the "Reading Site" scam and got a few free books, but haven't been able to connect with them in at least a month.  Now when I try to get to their site, it directs me to another site for textbooks.  I sent them a message, but it's only been a few minutes.  How do I recoup my $ from "the Reading Site?"  It's been more than 90 days.

With this, as with most things: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Contact your credit card company. In addition, you need to cancel that card and have them issue you a new one, because they have probably already sold your number to other criminals.

I use Mastercard and the billing went through cgbilling.com.  You can call them at 1-877-369-5566.  I just did that and they told me the charge would be reversed.

Re: BEWARE OF ONLINE SCAM - "The Reading Site"

I fell for it too. Paid for my membership and procrastinated about downloading any books. When I went to sign in, the member ID they assigned me as well as the password does not work. I can't log in. They advertise 24/7 support but if that's true, I'm a Chinese paratrooper! I've been emailing them for the past month and they never answer. I even did a search on Who's Who and emailed the CEO and still no answer. Now they are emailing me trying to entice me to join an offshoot by offering all 3 Hunger Games Books for free if you join that ebook club. So they are branching out under new names.

I can't even charge back the credit card as it has been over 90 days so I guess I am out of luck.

BTW B&N has a GREAT book called "At all costs" and it's only about $5. A great buy!

You need to cancel that credit card immediately if you have not already done so.

Re: BEWARE OF ONLINE SCAM - "The Reading Site"

This is why I ONLY do business online with legit established companies. I have never once entered my credit card number into a site that is from some weird unknown or unheard of company, I do not trust them. I have for years done transactions thru established retailers online without one problem as far as CC billing goes. I have seen really good deals on some sites that appear legit but still, id rather pay more to get it from a trusted site, than some weird one that could just be phising for CC numbers.

I would definatly cancell the card used,if it was a card that is attached to your checking acct I would go down to the branch asap and get them to see if they can freeze the account, as I have done this before once when i misplaced my card and thought maybe I left it behind at the grocery store, and another time when someone got a hold of my checkbook. My bank was able to freeze it , then go and cancell the card/close the checking acct, and I had to start up with a new one. Huge hassel took a little over an hour to open a new acct but well worth it knowing my money cant be messed with.
