BOOK QUESTION

This is probably a pretty basic question for alot of you, but...

Can you read books you buy from B&N on other readers (not nooks)?   I bought about half my books from B&N and the other half from other places.  It occurred to me that if I ever change ereaders in the future, I could lose half of my books.

Re: BOOK QUESTION

Supposedly, the latest version of ADE can handle the nook DRM, so, yes, you would be able to read those books on certain readers.  I can't say for sure as to what readers as I havent looked into it, but maybe someone else will respond.

Also, if you really get stuck, there is a plugin for Calibre that will strip the DRM from the file and allow you to read it on any ereader that reads epub, or will allow you to convert it to any other file format for readers that don't read epub (the only one I know if is the kindle).

While the adobe software used on the other eReaders is supposed to be able handle the BN books now, it is my understand that companies like Sony and Kobo have chosen enable that feature.  At least that is what was reported here several months ago.  So it would be something to investigate should you decide to change eReaders.

You meant they've *not* chosen to enable the feature, right?  I'm guessing based on context.
