Re: Buying a Nook in Canada?

@Elderlight, it's not the US doing the "preventing." It's Canada...

Thanks.  Your experience and knowledge finally catapulted me over to the side of caution for there are too many reasons why not to buy a Nook.  It seems that there may not be much literature for the Nook for the US is preventing sales in Canada.  Such a retarded nation

Thanks.

You didn't have to get nasty.

Many organizations that produce goods, including intellectual property like TV shows and eBooks, license retail sales broken down into territories like continents or even nations. It wouldn't be unusual for any product to be licensed for one company to sell in the US and a completely different company to sell (or act as a sales agent) on another nation like Canada or Mexico. It wouldn't be unreasonable to break down the territories into smaller areas like regions within a nation, even to individual states/provinces. These are often private or corporate decisions that correspond to less obvious licensing territories for goods like DVDs or print books.

Some governments even regulate the importation of entertainment or the language spoken/printed to limit the influence of foreign cultures. I see lots of programs taped in Vancouver BC on local (in the US) TV stations and cable channels intended for viewing in the US. Are Canadian broadcasters and cable/satellite channels allowed as much freedom by the national and provincial governments to show material produced in the US?

I'm not sure why you're blaming B&N and the US when it's Canada's culture protection act that's preventing those sales.

Re: Buying a Nook in Canada?

I noticed that this response waas back In March. I am wondering if you are still unable to download in Canada. I have read that this has changed and thought you would know better than anyone. Below a person responded saying that, if you had a US address, you would be good to go. Is you Nook registered with your US address???

There isn't actually a registration address on the Nook itself, just an email address.  The issue is actually what address your credit card is registered to.
