Re: Calibre update adds ability to add series to book titles on the Nook

@valmonte-- I've expanded a few epubs to do some fixes, but haven't tried the cover1 to cover fix you mentioned.  I believe I saw that one on mobileread as well as this one, which saved me some time. I have too many books to blow them up and change, so I did a mass conversion from epub to mobi to epub. Elfin magic. It worked fine for quite a long time, but something happened and my NC has gone a tad wiggy on me.  I need to post on another thread to figure it out.

Re: Calibre update adds ability to add series to book titles on the Nook

I could NOT get this to work for me.  I followed all the directions step by step and still no series sort.  Am I to understand that it only adds the information if you use the "send to device" option?  But then I send it to device and it adds it to a folder with the author's name and on the root directory on the SD card.  I want it on the SD card, but doesn't it belong in the My documents folder?  It seems to read the book, but without the series sort and I would much prefer to keep them all in one folder for organizational purposes.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Calibre update adds ability to add series to book titles on the Nook

How do you get this to work with the new Nook ST? I can't seem to get the series to show on the new Nook. Which has really frustrated me, I liked seeing the name of the series listed on the original 1st Nook.

Has someone out there actually gotten this to work on their ST Nook? If so can you walk me through what you did?

thanks

Re: Calibre update adds ability to add series to book titles on the Nook

I like the series name in front so an alpha sort places all the series together and in order, so I use

{series} {series_index:0>2s} - {title}

To get titles like:

Honor Harrington 01 - On Basilisk Station

Honor Harrington 02 - The Honor of the Queen

Honor Harrington 03 - The Short Victorious War

.

.

.

Honor Harrington 12 - Mission of Honor

This is how I have mine set up and love it, does anyone know if this still works with the N2E?

Re: Calibre update adds ability to add series to book titles on the Nook

Right that is how I have it set, but it doesn't seem to work on the Nook Simple Touch. Is there something else I might not have done?

Cause it was and is working for my Nook 1st generation just fine.

thanks

In the Plugboard dropdown list it prolly says Nook under device. Try changing that to Nook Color and see if it makes a difference when sending a book to the device.

Re: Calibre update adds ability to add series to book titles on the Nook

It appears that was the trick to making it work. Thank you so much! :smileyhappy:

I was going nuts trying to figure that out. I had gotten so used to being about to see what series and the number.

Re: Calibre update adds ability to add series to book titles on the Nook

If I create the series in Calibre, do I need to remove all the books from my N1E and then reload them from Calibre? Or will it simply overwrite the existing titles? :smileyhappy:

Since you have two nooks you will probably want to create two plugboards. One for the Nook Color device and one for the Nook device.

The books now have different titles so Calibre will create a new copy with the new title leaving you with both copies on your device. It will not overwrite the titles sorry.

Re: Calibre update adds ability to add series to book titles on the Nook

I got this to work wonderfully on my N1E.

However, books that aren't part of a series come up with a space and dash in front, e.g. " - Twisted"

Any idea how to get rid of the space and dash for non series books?

You are probably using this formula which inserts a hyphen before the title;

{series} {series_index:0>2s} - {title}

This formula inserts a hyphen after the series if the field is not blank;

{series: |  | -} {series_index:0>2s} {title}

In order to remove the hyphen from books already loaded on your nook you have to remove the books without series from your nook and re-add them after the new formula is applied in Calibre.

Books that are part of a series do not need to be removed from and re-added to your device. They will appear the same using either formula.

Edit: I had to add a space between series: and | to remove the smiley from this post. I don't think that space makes a difference in the display, if it does edit the formula to remove that space.

Re: Calibre update adds ability to add series to book titles on the Nook

Some options and how they will display on your Nook;

Metadata plugbord = blank

The 7th Victim

Crush

Black on Black

{series} {series_index}  {title}

Karen Vail 1 The 7th Victim

Karen Vail 2 Crush

Black on Black

{series} {series_index:0>2s} {title}

Karen Vail 01 The 7th Victim

Karen Vail 02 Crush

Black on Black

{series} {series_index:0>2s|  | -} {title}

Karen Vail 01 - The 7th Victim

Karen Vail 02 - Crush

Black on Black

{series: |  | -} {series_index:0>2s} {title}

Karen Vail - 01  The 7th Victim

Karen Vail - 02  Crush

Black on Black

note: Space added between series: and | to remove smiley from post. Remove space for Calibre to accept as vaild.

{series} {series_index:0>2s| (|)} {title}

Karen Vail (01) The 7th Victim

Karen Vail (02) Crush

Black on Black

I could kiss you. I have been trying to figure out how to configure Calibre for hours and none of my internet searches helped.  Your post fixed my issue in 60 seconds.  thanks for taking the time to post it!

Mobileread.com hosts the official Calibre forum. This is probably the best resource for getting your questions answered quickly.
