Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Cannot read library books on my nook!! Help!!!

I want to take books out from my public library. I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions. I checked the book out and downloaded it. I keep reading in different places that I am supposed to authorize my nook but no where does it ask me to. It says to Authorize my computer but not my nook. I am able to drag the book to my nook but when I go to open the book in the nook it says Not Activated.

I do not know what to do. How can I activate it if it is not asking me to. I have a Mac Mini so I do not know if I am supposed to be doing something different. I have removed Adobe Digital Editions and reinstalled it several times.

Please help! Thanks.

Re: Cannot read library books on my nook!! Help!!!

good, but don't thank me too much, a bunch of others were the original folks that came up with all these steps, I just did a quick cut and paste.  Anyway, I ran into basically the exact same issue, and it turned out this fixed it.  The Nook already had some file preloaded on it, when i deleted it, then reconnected to ADM it worked like a charm.  But follow the steps for the Mac, I assume it will work for you too

@DeeMcD1

With you nook hooked up to the computer and ADE open, you should see an icon for the nook in the left panel toward the bottom of the list.

On the black bar at the top of the ADE screen, click on the word "Library" with the little black triangle next to it. Click on Authorize Device. If you have more than one e-reader, you have to do this for each device the first time you connect them to ADE.

Happy reading
