DO NOT BUY A NOOK, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY A NOOK

I WAS GIVEN A NOOK AND STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY ENDED. THE BATTERY RAN DOWN AFTER 1 DAY AND I HAD TO REBOOT EVERY TIME I WANTED TO OPEN IT. I SPOKE WITH TECHNICAL SUPPORT MANY TIMES. WHEN I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE WHO COULD UNDERSTAND ENGLISH WELL ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND MY PROBLEMS, WE ATTEMPTED SEVERAL DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS SUCH AS FACTORY FALL BACK, TURNING ON AND OFF, ETC. I ALSO BOUGHT A BRAND NEW BATTERY. NOTHING HAS HELPED. I AM STUCK WITH IT AND $$$$ OF BOOK BOUGHT. I HAVE NEVER DROPPED IT, OT DAMAGED IT IN ANY OTHER WAY. I THINK THE NOOK SHOULD OUTLAST ITS WARRANTY, BUT IT HAS NOT.

I WILL TRY THE AMAZON EREADER.

Re: DO NOT BUY A NOOK, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY A NOOK

First off, if you want sympathy, you should stop YELLING.  It is considered in bad form to use all caps.

Second, you were given a nook and it outlasted its warranty--maybe not by much, but it did.  You are not out any money at all.  You state in your post that the nook should outlast its warranty, but it has not.  This contradicts your statement that you started having problems right after the warranty ended.  If it died before the warranty, you could have gotten an exchange.

Third, the fact that you bought books for your nook--you didn't lose those.  They are still on your B&N account and can be accessed through your computer or other electronic device.

Fourth, what makes you think that the "amazon" reader will do any better?  I'm sure they have

instances where they fail right out of the warranty.

I don't frequent this board all that often because frankly I am getting tired of seeing people who decide to badmouth the nook for unfounded issues.  I'm sorry your nook died.  I understand your frustration.  But those of us that are here for the right reasons will not sympathize with you when you yell, condemn and state that you are just going to try the competition.

Good luck.

Overall, it appears that you are just trying to cause problems.  Why, I don't know?

She first has to figure out what it is, other than that "Amazon reader."

Sorry to disappoint; I already own two.

Too bad you didn't tell me all of this before I fell in love with both devices.

Yeah, tell me about it. Mine is over a year old and the piece of junk has done nothing but provide hours of reading enjoyment to me. Problem-free too. Now I find out I should have never bought it. Dammit!:smileyvery-happy:

Re: DO NOT BUY A NOOK, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY A NOOK

This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. The broadcasters of your area in voluntary cooperation with the Federal, State and local authorities have developed this system to keep you informed in the event of a NOOK emergency. If a NOOK button cracked, a NOOK "froze," a NOOK battery failed, or other actual NOOK emergency occured, the Attention Signal you just heard would have been followed by official information, news or instructions.  The NOOK General Discussion station serves the B&N NOOK Apps and NOOKbooks Boards area. This concludes this test of the Emergency Broadcast System.

Re: DO NOT BUY A NOOK, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY A NOOK

These things happen, not to all though.  I have had my Nook for over a year now and luckily I have not experienced any problems, a few of my friends also have the Nook and are very happy with it.  Maybe if I had purchased a Kindle I would have run into problems...you never know with these gadgets.

Thank the person that gave it to you and move on.

I was going to [snip] out the irrelevant stuff and reply in my usual terse and pithy manner to some lucid point.

Alas, there is nothing lucid here...

To the OP: why did you come here?  I'd like to help you out...which way did you come in?

Re: DO NOT BUY A NOOK, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY A NOOK

I recently bought a Nook!  Am I doomed?  Should I stock up on tinfoil to make hats out of?  And I think the Twinkies are plotting against me!
