Thank you for the list.  I did read the manual but that was almost a year ago when I received the nook.  I have a question -- how do you eject.  i saw that but I could n't figure out how.

I received gift certifications from Borders and Amazon for Christmas.  I downloaded the pc app for Borders and tried to download a book.  I see it in my docs but can't open it in my nook -- because it says "user not activated:.  Do you know what this mean?

Am I doing the convert correctly?  I am wondering if the reason I can't open it is because I didn't eject properly but I can' figure out how to eject.

I have  $75 on the Borders card and I really hate to lose it.  Amazon is only $20 so I can buy something else if I can't download.

I don't think I've ever downloaded anything from Borders, but from the error message you are getting it sounds like you need to install Adobe Digital Editions and load it that way.  There is a link in my signature for getting ADE up and running.

To eject the Nook, if you have a PC, you need to find the Nook drive in either My Computer or Windows Explorer.  Right mouse click on the Nook drive and select eject from the menu.  The Nook will change from USB drive mode back to reading mode.  Then you can safely disconnect it.

You can't read books from Amazon on the Nook, Amazon uses a proprietary format that can only be read on a Kindle or with a Kindle APP.

download to library problem

Great job - thanks!  Not sure if you can help, but I am having trouble downloading Hunger Games for the kids.  I bought it and pushed download.  I finally found it in "my files" instead of my library.  I noticed that  the cover is not illustrated or in color.  In My Library, it has an exclamation point and says it belongs to a different account.  I set up the Adobe digital before I got the nook.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

I believe the bigest advantage to nook over kindle at this time is color because kindle still don't have color version.  I hope there is eventually ebook readers with same format. Good luck to ebook reader owners.

I agree with all but the last - #25.  The phone customer service may be great - IF you can get them!  I have been trying for days...

But that said, thanks for the tips, I'm sure they will be helpful.  ( For example, I didn't know that it would not charge with the power off!)

@LucyPrl9 - The phones were busy because of the holiday.  I spoke with the Nook expert at my story and they said that always happens during the holidays/when there is a high-volumn buying time.  I waited until the middle of January and then didn't have any problems.

The last few days I have been unable to access the "Free Ebooks" using 0.00.  Has anyone else had this problem?  If you have, were you able to solve it?  I have found this extremely helpful in looking for free ebooks.  I hope I have posted this in the right thread.  Thanks Doug for all your work and helpful hints.

Good morning,

I'm not Doug, but there have been posts the last few days from others unable to access the free ebooks.  I'm not sure if it was an issue with the B&N server.  If you browse the boards for posts the last few days, you'll see you're not alone, and whether it's been resolved.

Happy reading.  :smileyhappy:

This is a great list. I can't believe all the people who read the manual. I couldn't wait to get started, so I just skimmed... then did a quick internet search that lead me to you! Thank you so much! Very awesome!

Re: Didn't read the manual? A list of things you probably need to know about NOOK.

Actually my Nook color ONLY charges when I have it off.  For some reason the Nook charger stopped working and I had to buy a generic charger.  But the generic charger will only work if I completely power the Nook off, it will not charge at all if it's on.  I'm thinking that because of this and a couple of other quirks I may have a lemon.

You have a lemon because a GENERIC, THIRD PARTY non BN charger doesn't work?

I love your tips and but my nook did not come with a manual, which I thought was weird.  All I got was a quick start guide.  Is the manual online?

Thanks!

The manual is actually on the nook.  You can also find it in the support section for your nook on the website.

I've had no problems getting ahold of them it was their attitude that put me off. You would think they know nothing about Nook. And trust me when you do get ahold of them you'll be on the phone for two or more hours because they love the hold button. They will also make some lame excuse that the problem you called about turn out to be your fault. Like purchasing books over six months ago and when re-registering your Nook because of an email adress change you lose a quarter of them because now they wont download. They claim that it was my fault that the funds where not available at the time of purchase. Don't give me that! I read them archived and unarchived. They were paid for and in my Nook library. It really upset me that as a valued customer this is the way I'm to be treated. I lost over $100.00 worth of books that they convieniently put the blame on me. Hey i guess they have to come up with the money somehow to make their Nook Color:smileymad:  I'm not the only one this has happend to either. You'd be surprised at how many others this has happened to.

As far as charging your Nook when it's off shouldn't be an issue. I you notice it will suddenly turn itself on and go into sleep mode. I now my mom some times would have problems with  hers. We just unplugged both chords and reconnected them and every thing was fine.

Can anyone help? I think my fingers got glued to my NOOK and I can't seem to put it down!1! :smileyhappy:-
Although it's a good conversation piece when out in public!!
