Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series #1)    I would recommend the Anita Blake series, but would have to halt my recommendation after about #7 or #8 of the series as IMO she went overboard on the paranormal sex thing.

A strong second to that.  The early Anita Blake books are excellent -- well plotted, wiseass and enormously engaging and entertaining.  Nikolaos in Guilty Pleasures is the scariest vampire I've ever run into in any medium.
For some reason around Narcissus in Chains (I'd give her a couple more books than Deb does, but no more), Hamilton crossed the line from paranormal sexy to paranormal porn, and has never looked back.  :smileysad:

Re: EBooks-Vampires

I love the Sookie Stackhouse series! I definitely agree with everyone else...you should read those!

I've started the Anita Blake series and am at the point where it's getting very explicit so I've slowed down on that series some.

I've also read The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith.  They are very different from the tv show.  They start off pretty good but the last two books have been kind of out there.

I loved the Twilight series when I first read them but now that I've read some other vampire books, I'm not so impressed with the Cullens...pretty wimpy vampires compared to the most of the others!!!!  I'm going to have to check out some of the other series mentioned.

Honestly, I don't remember which book I was reading when I gave up but knew I was done when the only thing that entered my mind through the various "para-porn" scenes was, "Eh....been there done that...."  :smileywink:

Re: EBooks-Vampires

"NookBoards" http://www.nookboards.com/forum/index.php has a lending/borrowing part of the boards.

There is also another site that you can post and read others posts about what they have to lend out, booksfornooks.com

and to add to all the vampy banter -- I went NUTS for the vampire academy series, which I venture to say is better then twilight(Which I love as well)

The anita blake books were awesome till around #10. I hated blue bloods and only barely made it thru book 2, but house of night was fun and entertaining.

When I got a little....tired of vampire after vampire book, I started reading post apocalyptic stuff, like forest of hands and teeth which is great if you're into zombies... and the hunger games trilogy, which are my favorite YA books of all time.

I just started the sookie books myself, and of course, they're great!

Welcome!  :smileyhappy:

Next time you're a little tired of vampires, check out Rob Thurman's Cal Leandros books -- fun and clever mix of the natural and preternatural, and the vampires are only in supporting roles.  Great cover art, too.  The fun starts with

Have they fixed this book on B&N's site?  I bought it a few weeks ago and what got downloaded was not  Nightlife by Rob Thurman; it was Night Life by Elizabeth Guest.  I didn't have any problems returning the book for a refund, but you might want to download the sample and see if it's the right book before you buy it.  It looks like Nightlife on the nook and that's what the tags and description say, but the text is for the other book. Luckily B&N isn't our only purchasing option if the book isn't fixed yet.

Just checked the sample -- it's STILL the Elizabeth Guest book!  This is outrageous. :smileymad:

Ed.:  Just sent Michael-V a PM, asking him to have this looked into.  Looking at the Customer Reviews, lisat96 wasn't the only one caught, and they still haven't changed it.

Okay, Mr. AB3...should have known you would call me on that, let me clarify :smileyhappy:  Any nonchalance on my part regarding para-porn is based upon Anita's frequency with such things, not my own.  It is truly sad though when such material is so prevalent in a book that you don't even care to live vicariously through the heroine any longer :smileysad:

Re: EBooks-Vampires

As others have said, more information on age, etc,.  Do you want romance vampire or not so much romance vampire?

Christine Feehan's Dark series about the Carpathians is vampirish.  There is some graphic sex in all the books, but not overwhelming with it.  Actually, there's sex in all of these, they're adult books.

Lynsay Sands Argeneau series is definitely light weight vampire romance.  Good vampires, not undead, soul sucking vampires.  Light weight vampire romance w/sex.

Sherilyn Kenyon Dark hunters.

Karen Moning Fever Series.  Vampires along with other paranormal fae characters.  The first one is free.

 Darkfever (Fever Series #1)

Re: EBooks-Vampires

Deb, I completely agree, I totally lived through Anita in Guilty pleasures and a few other books too, than when she started having sex all the time (well my hubby does say I'm a prude) I just didn't feel like the Kick butt Heroine that I always did, but she's back In my humble opinion, at least in Skin trade there was little to no sex..so I felt like YAH! I'm back!

sorry just me I guess

The above is what happens when the new kitten walks accross your laptop while your back is turned :smileyhappy:

Maybe I should revisit my Anita Relationship but once burned, I seldom return.  I am NOT a prude and enjoy all kinds of books with varying degree of adult material, but those just went over the top and really contrary to how her character started.  It was any fun anymore....

I also like the Dark Hunter series but have to again state my love of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series!

Hope to see you later at...

Re: EBooks-Vampires

so far no one has mentioned Katie MacAlister's "Dark Ones" series, Susan Sizemore's "Primes" series, and Kerrilyn Spark's "Love at Stake" series. These are similar to Lyndsay Sand's books in that they're light in tone. While there's sex, it's not as graphic as some of the series mentioned.

I feel the same way.  I miss Hamilton, but we're done forever, I think. :smileysad:

Re: EBooks-Vampires

well maybe you should check out Skin trade..I honestly was starting to consider quitting Hamilton, till my friend online was like, there's little to no sex in it.  Anita is not as whiney as she has been.

But on another note. Have any of you read Stephen King's Colorado Kid?  It's now a TV show called Haven but I didn't know if anyone had it or even if I could borrow it from someone.  I don't know how to do that stuff yet, and I'm broke so I can't buy it yet.

Re: EBooks-Vampires

I loved the Stephanie Meyer Twilight series as well, and then had a hard time finding other Vampire books that would hold my attention.. I tried the Anita Blake series, and couldn't get throug the first book (way too sexually explicit for me) and then couldn't get into the Sookie Stackhouse books either. Then B&N and Kim Harrison released the first book in the Hollows Series as a freebie, so I tried it, and I have blown through the entire series since then. The Hollows are kind of a cross between Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series (super funny bounty hunter) and adds the fun of witches, pixies, vampires, demons, and elves. Its def worth a try.

Re: EBooks-Vampires

I enjoyed Twilight as well.  Other books that I couldn't put down are:

Fairies:

Fever series by Karen Moning (1st one free!) anxiously awaiting until 1/18 for final book in series

Vampires:

Blood that Bonds - free ebook

Werewolves:

The Mating - free ebook

Shape shifters:

Black Silk - free ebook

I did not enjoy:  House of Night (annoyingly teenybopper) or Hunger Games (it was well written, but I couldn't get past the fact that it was children killing children.)
