Since you guys are so up on your vampire books, maybe you could help me find one. I read it about ten years ago from a library, so there was no cover art, I don't remember the title or author. The main character was a female vampire and her vampire servant. There was a male vampire that was starving them, keeping them locked up and would give them a starving baby every couple nights for them to share. Some points I remember are when the servant hired a painter to do the lady's portrait so she could see what she looked like (a minor point, but I remember it for some reason) and at one point another female is introduced. She did something to the female vampire so she would no longer be effected by crosses, the sun, etc, helping her escape the torment from the male vampire. There was a smutty scene between the two, but overall was not a vampire sex book. I know there were at least 2 books in the series, but may have been three. Sorry, I know it's not a lot to go one but you guys seem to be vampire book experts so I thought I would ask you before moving to the "lost books" forum.

The early Anita Blake books are excellent -- well plotted, wiseass and enormously engaging and entertaining. Nikolaos in Guilty Pleasures is the scariest vampire I've ever run into in any medium. For some reason around Narcissus in Chains (I'd give her a couple more books than Deb does, but no more), Hamilton crossed the line from paranormal sexy to paranormal porn, and has never looked back.
Actually the most recent book, Bullet, isn't as bad as maybe the last 6. There was some sexual content but not in almost every chapter like the last few.

I'd have to disagree. When anita wasn't having sex with multiple men, she was simply describing in great detail what they were wearing and how good they looked.
To be honest the first 3 Anita Blake books were the most enjoyable - with practically no sex in them what so ever.
As for recommendations, i'd have to second or third the faefever books - not vampires but it's still paranormal.
I'd also recommend the vampire academy over the house of night books. House of night got a lil too teeny bopper for me.
If you don't mind branching out into other paranormal activity, Kate Daniels books are pretty decent.
Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series is really entertaining - there were numerous times where i'd just crack up during it.
CL Wilsons Tairen Soul series was pretty fantastic, and Signs of the Zodiac series by Vicki Pettersson was pretty intriguing as well.

I just finishing plowing through the Signs of the Zodiac series a week before buying my nook, and really enjoyed them.
The Rachel Morgan series is a favorite, also, and I'm always waiting for the next one to come out.
Thanks for the tip about Vampire Academy. I'm just finishing the last book in the House of Night series now, so I'll be looking for something new.![]()

The Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series is good up to the book Blue Moon - after that the series went downhill(mostly sex and very little plot after that book)
The Sherilyn Kenyon Dark Hunter Series is also good.
Black Dagger Brother Hood Series by J.R. Ward is also good.
The Darkyn Series by Lynn Viehl is pretty good

So many authors have written books about vampires. The ones mentioned so far are fairly recent ones.
Go back further to ones like those from Anne Rice.

I'm sorry I don't know that book. Hopefully someone else can help you. I do read a lot of vampire books but haven't come across one like that.

Agree that the Anita Blakes were good up until Blue Moon, I don't know what the heck happened to that author that made her change them into vampire-porn. It's a shame because the first books were really good and she had so much talent.
The Charlaine Harris Sookie books are my fav vampire books, they take the best of what I liked in the Anita Blakes without all the sex clogging the up.
The Black Dagger of Brotherhood books - Ok for a while but I got tired of the constant self pity parties the heroes go through. Extremely tortured. Poor me, I'm not worthy, I'm a horrible person, I don't deserve happiness, blah blah blah. I always skimmed through the 'Lessor' stuff too.
Robin McKinley's "Sunshine" is excellent, I wish she had done a sequel.
I very much enjoyed "The Vampire's Seduction" by Raven Heart and "The Turning" by Jennifer Armintrout.
Susan Sizemore wrote some enjoyable vampire romance, starting with "I Burn for You".
If you want to go really dark then there is Joey Hill, they are more 'romantica' and pretty dark and violent.

After Midnight and The Vampire Who Loved Me by Teresa Medeiros. You should read these two books in order.
The Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian. There are 8 books in this series with the 9th due to come out in June. She already has plans for a 10th book in the series. The first book is Kiss of Midnight.
Black Dagger Brotherhood by J. R. Ward. There are 8 books in this series with the 9th due out next month. The first book is Dark Lover.
Scanguards Vampires series by Tina Folsom. There are 3 books in this series. I'm not sure if she is going to continue with the Scanguards Vampires. The first book is Samson's Lovely Mortal. She does have 2 Vampyr in Venice books out but I have not read them.
All these books are available for The Nook.

Wow nice set of responses. Well maybe you guys can help me out. Read the Vampire the Masquerade books and then stopped after Gehenna.
Now I'm looking to get back into Vampire books but something with a lot more action and good story. More along the lines of the Underworld movies, Blade movies, Bloodrayne games, and Vampire the Masquerade than anything along the lines of Twilight. Saw the Twilight movies but it's not for me, teeny boppers and housewives sure, but definitely not for my tastes. (no offense to kiddies and housewives out there, but man that series was bad)
Also now that I remember I did read the books by Anne Rice. Not bad cause of the way she was detailed with describing ancient times but meh, another I could do without.

As mentioned above the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward.
Anita Blake Vampire Hunter by Laurel K. Hamilton series up to Blue Moon - After that it went WAY down hill
Mary Janice Davidson - Undead series is good up to about the 6th book in the series
Darkyn Series by Lynn Viehl are pretty good
A friend of mine recommended the Sookie Stackhouse series to me - wasn't my cup of tea but you might want to give it a shot
Also Vampire Diaries is another YA series that everyone seems to recommend if you like the Twilight series.
The Others Series by Christine Warren has Vampires, Werewolves, etc... it's pretty good the actual first book in the series is One Bite with a Stranger - you can get the actual reading order from the author website - although they can be read as stand alone

If you want a scary vampire story then I recommend the following two. There will be the final book hopefully soon. No glittering, romantic or blood substitute drinking vamps just scary nasty ones. The humans that are trying to stop the epidemic from taking over the world have strong, interesting characters. Great reads.

I am just wondering when The Greyfriar: Book 1 in the Vampire Empire series will be available for Nook. It is a very interesting Vampire/Steampunk crossover that has gotten some great reviews. It's been available for Kindle for a couple months, but no Nook edition yet. Would love to add this to my long list of books on my NC just waiting to be read.

Another good series is Katie MacAlister's Dark Ones Series
Also Jennifer Rardin's Jazz Parks Series - there are 6 or 7 books of it out with the last one being published in June or July this year.
