The problem with google books is that it's just a scanned page. Gutenburg is of questionable quality as well. I perfer to get my free books from feedbooks and upgrade to B&N series when possible, just to be consistant. I think my library looks nicer when my books 'match'. But I'm silly that way.

The classic stories are nice but at the same time part of the appeal to my nook was finding new authors and recent works. I do like the free swag but whistfully miss the other page. Back to searching 0.00 price tags and looking through pages and pages of books.
For me, the appeal is the extra material in the B&N versions. They have an introduction, a short bio of the author, and a few other features. Also, they are nicely formatted -- whereas, some of the public domain books from other sites can be hit or miss.
An easier way to find the freebies is to check inkmesh.com or ebooks.addall.com. Both have a section listing the free B&N books.

Now, however, when I click on the link for "Free eBooks" it takes me to the one page of B&N Classics and that's it. What happened to all the other ones that were up there? It wasn't the greatest selection in the world, but I did like to check back once in a while.
This should do the job for you: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/free-ebooks/379001
That's from a search for "free ebooks" under eBooks.
An alternative is: http://productsearch.barnesandnoble.com/search/res
That's a search for "0.00" under eBooks and then sorting the results by "Bestsellers". The presentation is "down the page" instead of a matrix.

Thanks - that seems to do the trick. I just don't understand why they had to change it in the first place.

I'm not denying that the B&N version isn't nice but at the same time I'm just saying they seem to be pushing a product that most of us have many alternative ways to access. And as far as BN books being of a superior quality...that's a meh. There are plenty of typos and formatting errors even from respected publishers just like the hard copy books we buy. Do the BN versions of the classics have some advantages? Yes. But I'm standing by the feeling that I prefer newer books and releases than the classics being pushed.

I look at it this way, not every promotion is going to appeal to everyone... we still have free Fridays in the meantime and once this promotion ends, a new one will likely take its place, perhaps one more to your liking, if not that one, maybe the next....

J Verne Time Machine 20,000 Leagues
Dickens Tale of Two Cities
To just name a few.
Several non-american authors have been represented in the free "Barnes and Noble" classics. British are well represented but also Victor Hugo, Gaston Leroux, Brothers Grimm, and Edmond Rostand.

Forgive me if I am repeating what others have said, but it is also worth noting that if you can not find a free classic directly from B&N there are literally thousands available from sites such as Project Gutenberg that you can side load into the Nook under My Documents. The best bet is to download a book in epub format. Side loading entails an extra step but is no big deal. While the $1.99 classics are cheap, it is probably not necessary even to pay that much.

Helpful list Nikki.
I've put them in an essentials list in case anyone wants to track the free books that way:
http://my.barnesandnoble.com/Books-that-made-us-lo
Also did same for this weeks promotion
http://my.barnesandnoble.com/If-you-liked-the-movi
And the promotion from the 4th of July "Celebrate American Letters"
http://my.barnesandnoble.com/Celebrate-American-Le
It bugged me that I couldn't get to the original promotion lists. gotta keep that OCD in check...

yes but for that $1.99 you are getting notes, essays and/or a biography as well as other material. Also these are true EPub books, and not simply scans of old books.

At least for the moment the link for free ebooks on the B&N site is again showing all the featured free eBooks rather than just the free B&N classics.

"Different strokes for different folks" describes promotions and sales from all vendors. I am not doing cartwheels over this promotion but cannot deny the value and am taking advantage of it. Perhaps I will rediscover some gems in these selections that I missed years ago ![]()
That being said, I want to encourage you to still watch these message boards and the BN website for other free offers. Many many other modern authors and series show up frequently. I've obtained so many free or "almost free" books from BN that if I wanted, I could read for a very long time without purchasing any others.....notice, I said "if I wanted"... Yes, I am an eBook addict and admit it ![]()

I'm an addict to my Nook already, and would be happy to have free books all the time.
The one thing maybe you guys can help me figure out is, I wanted to read The Wizard of Oz stuff, but I couldn't figure out which one is the correct one to read..I know its the wonderful Wizard of oz, but you know..there's like 3 copies of it for free, which one is the one that was written..or something.

The B&N Classic we picked up for free is this one:
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Barnes & Noble Classics Series)
If you are looking for another free version, you just have to check them out, it's rather hit and miss...

And they're up!
I'm afraid your wish has not been granted; this week's theme is "love and passion". But Jane Austen fans (such as myself) can rejoyce! My Austen eBook collection is now complete - and all for free. I'd also decided that Mansfield Park was going to be my next read and was planning to check it out from the public library, but I've been gifted with a copy of my very own!
Thanks, BN!

OK. What is the secret to finding these books.
I have literally searched the B&N site and cannot find any link to them.
What am I missing.
Is there a secret handshake or thumb-twist that I am missing?
UPDATE:
OK, I finally found them using this link.
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/free-classic-novel
Had to search back through this thread to get it.
Still can't find a direct link on the B&N website.
Maybe all this reading is making me go blind. LOL

There is sort of a "scrolling" link that appears at the top of the home page (where they announce the various promotions), but the quick link B&N announced when they first announced this promotion is www.bn.com/freelibrary.
