Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Free Fridays

This looks like an interesting title but it's not the type of thing I like.

Since it's gonna be at least six months before I see my hubby again, this might work for me!

Well, today is the day I load up my Nook for my older, kind of religious uncle.  I was hoping for a Free friday book I could use.  I am thinking this isn't one of them (ha ha).  I shouldn't joke about this, but I fear a few pages into this one and he may have another stroke!:smileysurprised:

Re: Free Fridays

Even though, they offer a free book on Fridays, wish the picks were more interesting...I don't want to download a book just because it free as it will just take up space in my Nook.

Re: Free Fridays

Hey y'all!  I'm new around here, so I've probably missed something about this, but here goes..

Is it this hard for eveeryone to find the Free Friday book??  Maybe I'm just ignorant, or haven't explored the site enough, but I have the worst time with this!  Now that I've found these boards, I'm sure I will have an easier time of it.

Have a great day everyone :smileyhappy:

Re: Free Fridays

I was prompted on my face book acct. as to what book would be on free friday.  I located the book by typing the name of the book in the search box on the home page of barnes and noble. The book was found quickly.

@qbaby

You can find it every Friday morning in the "Unbound" blog.

Just click on "Boards" in the upper right hand corner of this screen, then scroll down to "Unbound".

Re: Free Fridays

[ Edited ]

I would love to see them start a new blog and call it T.G.I.F. and have Free Friday books that are something other than romance or self-help. Namely, stuff the menfolk would enjoy too.

I'm not the typical female in that I just really don't like romance books, I like westerns, war stories, action-adventure, mysteries, etc.

The only time I seem to tolerate romance is if one of them gets shot, strangled or otherwise dismembered and then somebody has to figure out whodunnit ... as long as it's tastefully done, of course. :smileywink:

Even if they had some classics for free, they could cross-post.

I want westerns, and not ones that the mush-book publishers consider westerns because it has a half-naked cowboy on the cover or a horse in the story. I want action, adventure, whodunnits, war stories!

Re: Free Fridays

@Desert_Brat

Many, many of us would agree with you.

Unfortunately, most of the books of the kind you're looking for are published by the Agency Five, so B&N can't "discount" them, especially by 100%.

That leaves only Random House and all the dwarf publishers -- a huge proportion of whose output is euphemistically referred to as "erotica" -- plus self-published authors.

Since I got my Nook for Christmas 2009, B&N has done two great Classics giveaways.  It's been a while since the last one so keep your eyes open -- another one could come along.

It would be great to see more free Random House titles, but if the choice is between the supernatural and the softcore porn, I'd rather see ghosts and such.  :smileywink:

Re: Free Fridays

Well, in my opinion, regardless of the subject matter of the book, I think "Free Fridays" is a wonderful gift from Barnes and Noble to their patrons. :smileyhappy:

Oh, I didn't intend to say otherwise, sorry if it seemed that way.

I think it's a nice service, too. I just wish it were geared toward all nook users, not just the feminine populus.
