Gift Cards disappeared!

Hi, has this happened to anyone else? I put two gift cards on my account a little over a year ago, I last used them about a year ago.  I made a purchase yesterday expecting the balance to come out of my gift card balance but instead came out of my default credit card, logged onto my account and see that there are no gift cards enetred into my account any longer.

I call B&N and they say there is nothing they can do unless I have the gift card numbers, unfortunately I do not since I put them on my account over a year ago.  We can see purchases I made with the gift cards and see the card number as *******773*, she says there is no way she can access the number and I can't either so nothing can be done.  This must have been a glitch on B&N side as my account was not hacked, what to do??  Suck it up I guess

Do you possibly still have the receipt for the cards?  I had a card lost in the mail once, and the store was very helpful.  I gave the receipt, they contacted the corporate office who was able to determine from the receipt the number of the card and checked that it hadn't been used.  So they canceled that card and issued me another one.  

You might try going to the store where you purchased the card and see if they can help.  I hope you get this resolved.

One thing I do, is I always keep the gift cards until I'm sure they have been used up.  I just have a small box on my desk where I store them.  And, I keep track of the amount coming out of each card, so I know it all got used.  

Funny part of this store, the birthday card with the gift card in it, showed up a year later, returned to me, not delivered.  Never did figure out why.

Yes, this just recently happened to me also.  Pretty much the same scenerio.  I had a gift card about a year ago that I added to my online account.  I had a balance of roughly $35 and when I went to make a purchase recently, my gift card balance was $0.00!  I called B&N suppor(1-800-THEBOOK)t and explained the situation to them.  They were able to look up my gift card number and pin and had me re-enter the information and my $35.02 was fully restored.  They were very helpful.  Give them a call.  Good luck!

I've never had a problem with my gift cards, and I've always disposed of the cards after entering the numbers in the system.

However after reading this and a few similar postings on here, I will now keep the cards until they are exhausted.

I'm sorry for your difficulties, but at least you managed to educate at least one person.

Hmm the woman on the phone said she could not look up the number for me I would have to supply it to her, should I call again for someone new??

These were gifted to me so I don't have the receipt and I will keep it in mind from now on to hold on to the cards until they are used up!

Yes, call back and get someone else.

I actually had to call twice.  The first time the person I spoke to was going to email me a code for the missing money.  After a week I called back and that is when they looked up my giftcard and gave me to information to enter to get my money back. 

Have them look up your purchase history.  That is how they realized that there was a problem.

I noticed this issue today.  I forced support to let me talk to a manager and they were able to re-add the gift card back to my account.  The lady i talked to said that she was able to pull the information off of the last online transaction that i had on the card.  she did suggest that i should save all gift cards until the are fully depleated.

Thanks, this makes me feel better that I will be able to get somewhere, the lady I talked to this morning made sound as if I had no options if I did not actually have the gift card!

Update: My second call went a lot better, he retrieved one of my gift cards from my account since I had made a purchase from it, since the other card on my account had never been used it is lost forever.  I still got $20 back though which is better than nothing, thanks for responding and letting me know your experience, my first call had me thinking I was SOL.  I will definitely be holding on to my gift cards from now on though!

I'm thinking of making wall art with mine, as I still have some of them sitting in small box.  If I pick out a different design each time, I could have a really cool piece of wall art someday.

I had this happen to both my daughter's and my accounts.  If you can get to one of your transactions made on the gift card they can get you the number and pin.  Evidently there was a computer server that unattached some accounts and they are looking into it.

This happened to me as well.  I found the main gift card that I had been using and reentered it.  All the other gift cards had $0 balances on them; I could have sworn they still had recharged balances but apparently not.

This happened to me a few months ago.  I was able to find the cards and enter them again.  At the time several other users replied they had a similar experience.  Interestingly, my gift cards disappeared in the middle of purchasing several ebooks; the first purchase went to a gift card, the others to my credit card even though I had three gift cards entered).  I now make sure to save my gift cards until depleted and look at the balance prior to every purchase.
