Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

I would guess Amazon probably sells the 3G more just on the fact around here at best buy and target the only kindles they have are the 190 dollar models with 3G in them.

Actually, they don't. Though they haven't released sales numbers, the Wi-Fi only Kindle is outselling the 3G Kindle. I'm guessing that BB and Target just order fewer 3G models.

Re: God I wish there was a 3g option to Nook touch.

[ Edited ]

Oh my, this is one of the stupidest threads I've ever read and I'm going to add to it.

I spent my Christmas bonus on the Nook complete with 3G back in December 2009.  I've probably used the 3G five times since and one was to see if I could buy a book on the road.  I tried to use it in the Texas panhandle but my 3G service got interrupted.  We had to stop at a rest area with wifi to redo it.  The only time it came in handy was when I was in the hospital and wifi wasn't accessible in my room.

When my husband got his a year ago, he got wifi only because he's frugal enough to realize he could spend the extra on books.

My point is - If 3G is that important, go buy something else.  Period.  There is no argument.

Now I remember why I don't come here very much.  I only came looking for a link I knew was in a person's signature.

Perhaps the only ones in the store is the 190 because they are not selling I didn't think about that.

Help me down the crooked road. Lead me to the light. I'm not sure I know the way but with you beside me, I'm certain we'll make it through.

Re: God I wish there was a 3g option to Nook touch.

Okay people you got me so confused i just don't know anymore. I'll try to explain. If you just brought the wifi version then you are cheap, if you did not then you are not cheap, get it. Thats why BN  release an only wifi version because people don't want to spend the extra dough. Now don't give me any BS on " I rarely use the 3g". The 3g is there so when you are traveling you can buy everywhere. Now due to all the cheap people buying the wifi only version and saving the rest of the money for nookbooks, That's the reason BN will be only making wifi nooks. You wanted cheap you got cheap stop making crap reasons why you brought the wifi only version, I get it, you wanted to save money , which in my book makes you cheap, not that there is anything wrong with that. But its the sole reason why 3g is disappearing on BN.

So Roy, you never want to save money?

That's awesome.  I have a really great nook 3g to sell you for $50,000.  PM me and I'll tell you where to send the check.

Your theory is flawed. What about people who buy sony ereaders. They don't have 3g or wifi. Are those people cheap?? Those readers are more expensive than nook and kindle. 3g is going if you like it or not. No amount of insulting people is going to bring it back.

What an odd concept.  So, people who only pay for what they need are cheap.  What does that make the people who pay more for something they will NEVER use?  Stupid?

I travel, but in two years of reading exclusively with a B&N ereader of some sort, I've never had a single moment where I needed nor wanted 3g.  At any given time, I must have 50+ unread books on my NC and Nook - loaded via wifi at home or sideloaded while at home.  Heck, I've never even used a wifi hotspot to load material.  Why on earth would I pay more for something I'll never use?  That doesn't make me cheap, just sensible.

I live in nyc and yes it does not work it saddens me that you people cannot admit to yourself that this nook color does not work properly. and yes kindle has no probs that's why it got 25 thousand reviews and hmmmm I wonder why bn doesn't post customer reviews, I guess they think there customers are the true simple minded ones. Sad.

Wifi doesn't work in specific geographical areas?  This is news to me.  All this time I thought wifi was dependent on the router that's sending the signal.  Well color me stupid AND cheap!

By the way, this isn't the Nook Color forum.  You made a wrong turn somewhere (most likely when you sat behind your keyboard)...

Re: God I wish there was a 3g option to Nook touch.

I also wish that that the Nook Touch had a 3G (or 4G) option.   I'm often on the road and at places where Wi-fi is not available.  These trips may be for weeks at a time.  My 3G Nook 1ed has been great to have along on these trips! :smileyhappy:  I would certainly be willing to pay more to have the option of an alternative means of connecting to the BN Store besides Wi-fi!

BTW, there is a rumor going round that the new Amazon tablet will have the option of 4G connectivity for video streaming from the Amazon Store so you will be able to download movies along with books and music!

OK, I see the light.

3G = not cheap person

Wifi only = cheap person

Porsche = not cheap person

I'm off to the Porsche dealership to trade in my Hyundai!

I didn't spring for heated seats on my car - does that make me cheap?  Not paying for an option you're not going to use is not cheap.

But did you upgrade your air conditioning options?  That could negate your cheapness.

Roy seems to think if you didn't buy all the top-of-the-line options you're cheap.  You probably should have also purchased a Bugatti Veyron or you're cheap.

Fly coach, don't own your own top-of-the-line plane?  Cheap, cheap, cheap. :smileywink:

Re: God I wish there was a 3g option to Nook touch.

Hey, I'm a BN customer and I will admit it.  I AM cheap.  I have the nook 3G but got my wife the nook wifi because it was CHEAPER.  So yeah I am cheap and proud of it.  I never saw so many people get so insulted over being called cheap.  You would think you all were being called "socialist, statist, un-American, commie-pigs", accused of some kind of terrible crime or called some kind of racial remark.  There have been more comments on here about that one remark than the core subject of the thread.  If our government were CHEAP we wouldn't be looking at defaulting on our debt in August.

I happen to like my Volkswagon Beetle.  Why over pay for a car or anything else when something else can do the same job?  It's not cheap Roy it's being responsible with your money.

If you had spent less time reading your Nook or drooling over the 3G Kindle you probably would have noticed the additional options available to you.  :smileywink:

Thats what I meant, but these foolish people can only see hate. I buy cheap too. I'm just saying if you brought a wifi nook then you were cheap (trying to save money)because you could not afford the 3g version and that's why BN is not making them anymore.
