Hardware Improvements

I have a suggestion for the actual Nook hardware. I keep reading here about cracked bezels where the page turn is. Hasn't happened to me yet but I know its just a matter of time.

B & N should redesign the bezel to prevent this. Then have an in-store technician swap them for free. And set-up a mail-in exchange program for those without a store in the area.

Gee, wonder why no one has thought of that already.  :smileyvery-happy:

All kidding aside, that is actually what has been done, except for the in-store(which is left to the individual stores discretion).

Maybe the Nook 3.  The Screen makers have demo'ing color eInk, and similar technology.  But no word when they will actually be available and how much they would cost.  Some thought it was going to be this year, but that doesn't look that likely.

Re: Hardware Improvements

I think it would be great to have a case design, so that a spare battery could be slid in.  I read a lot and don't want to tethered to a plug.  Speaking of plugs, when are you guys going to make the power cord with a right angle connection so it doesn't break?

Since consumers seem to value reduced thickness and reduced weight and customer removable batteries are counter to those features, you might have a long wait. I suspect that until the battery itself starts to fail a removable battery also leads to increased device-battery electrical contact reliability problems in addition to slightly higher production costs.

If the various device manufacturers (phones, MP3 players, eBook readers, tablets etc) could agree on a standard an inductive recharging system would be even better. We could just place our devices on a device that looks like a place mat for charging and use WiFi for the equivalent of sideloading. Now that floppies are essentially obsolete (most people use flash drives now) we don't have to worry as much about magnetic fields erasing anything but the stripe on our credit/check cards.
