Does anyone know how to transfer non-B&N eBooks to a Nook? I have successfully downloaded the ADE software, as well as the eBook onto the software. ADE recognizes my nook device and I drag and drop the eBook onto my "nook" however when I open my Nook device, the book doesn't appear. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong? The B&N helpdesk has indicated that I CAN NOT transfer any non-B&N eBooks; I find this hard to believe since I have read various blogs which state this is not the case. Thanks for any help!

Sideloaded eBooks show up in My Documents for Nook and I believe in My Downloads for NookColor.

What does "sideloaded" mean?

Books you purchase from B&N download to your "MY B&N Library." Anything you move over from your computer to your nook is considered "sideloaded."
Since you seem to be having problems with ADE, you may want to search it in these boards. And for other sideloading, a glimpse at the user guide would not hurt. ![]()

From your original post, we can't tell exactly where the problem is, so Ya_Ya and Josienjoe gave good advice about reading ADE and NOOK user guides.
As an ADE user who also has encountered a few glitches with ADE, here are a few stray thoughts:
- Make sure the non-B&N book opens correctly in ADE before you try to "sideload" it to your NOOK.
- As the non-B&N book sideloads, you should see a pop-up window with a progress indication bar.
- After the sideloading has completed, be sure to "eject" your NOOK (and SD card, if you have one) drive. I "safely remove hardware" too, just to be on the safe side.
- The successfully sideloaded book will be found in "My Documents," the first listing in your Library menu.
- If you have shelves set up in your B&N Library and are showing shelves, the same shelves will appear in your My Documents library. The new sideloaded book will be "unshelved" at the end of your list, which might be on another page.
Hope this helps. Happy Reading!

It's already been sort of stated, but just to clarify:
There are two file folders on your Nook (well, more than two, but only two that you're concerned with right now), one titled My B&N Library and one titled My Documents.
My B&N Library holds your books purchased from Barnes and Noble.
My Documents holds everything else.
When you are in one of those folders, looking at the books available in that folder, the top option on your touch screen is to go to the other folder. If you're in your Barnes and Noble Library, it will show an option to "Go to My Documents", and vice versa.
Make sure you're in the right library.
That said, it's tough to get more specific without knowing more of the problem.

The nook user interface classifies books as being either in My B&N Library or My Documents;
- My B&N Lirbrary are books found in the file folder My B&N Downloads. These books were downloaded directly from BN.com to the nook using either your wifi or 3g connection.
- My Documents are books found anywhere else on the nook drive or SD card. These books would have been sideloaded (copied) from a computer to the nook.
When ADE authorizes your nook it creates a file folder Digital Editions on your nook. Books copied to your nook by ADE are stored in this folder.
Nook for PC also copies books to the file folder Digital Editions if ADE is installed. Otherwise it drops them in the root directory (or used too).

I am also having problems w/non B&N sideloaded Epub books from my local library. I have the ADE software on my computer and everything looks right, except I do NOT get any kind of progress bar when I transfer the book from my computer to my nook. The title shows in "my documents" on the nook, but when I try to open it says it is opening, and then just reverts to
the "My Documents" title page----HELP!! This is one of the main reasons I bought this reader.

How are you doing the transfer? You know that it has to be done from within the ADE window?

Ah, good to know. My apologies for my inaccuracy.
I have not yet done anything with ADE. All my books are either B&N or sideloaded through Calibre.

Same here but I also sideload my BN books using Calibre.
I just like playing with things to find different ways to break them. ![]()

Thanks for the feedback. I have sideloaded the ebook and found it in My Documents and it is listed as "author unknown." When I try to open/read it, it says "User not activiated" and does not allow me to access it. Any idea what this means? (i am able to view the ebook on ADE so I know that the file is good).

When you plugged your nook in where you ever prompted to authorize your nook?

Try this;
Close ADE
Plug your nook into your computer.
Open the nook drive in Windows Explorer.
Delete the folder named Digital Editions on the nook drive.
Delete the folder named .adobe-digital-editions on the nook drive.
Eject the nook and disconnect it from the computer.
Open ADE on your computer
Plug your nook into your computer.
ADE should then prompt you to authorize your nook.
After your nook has been authorized drag the books icon down to the nook icon in ADE.
Eject your nook and see if the book can now be opened on your nook.

Glad it helped but i was just repeating what others on this board have posted long before I got a nook.
