My mind is still trying to parse that statement.

Sorry.
I can't find one single ebook B&N has than Amazon doesn't. But I can find multiple instances of Amazon having a ebook that B&N doesn't have.
I might be wrong, but it pertains only to a few (it is only a few) of the books "I" want to read are affected by this.

Of course, Amazon has been at this for several years now and B*N basically less than a year. Amazon has had several years to get publishers to publish the books in their proprietary format, ePub is newer, so less total number of books published in that format, especially older books. It seems as though for newer books, they're about equal, it's the older books that Amazon has, not B&N.
The publisher's have to decide if there is a sufficient market for them to publish the book in a new format, not to mention wading through the legal issues of who has what rights to do what. I suspect, given time, B&N and the other ebook retailers will start catching up, but there may always be missing older books because Amazon started first and was in business when the book was originally published.

Thank you, DiAnneinDover, for your reply.
The public libraby has always been my main source of reading material. And I always used a Palm PDA to download them
.
I can read 5 to 7 books in a week. Even at $9.99, that is a lot of money in a week.
Now I want to try a bigger screen reader.
With your help, I have decided to return my Kindle and go for a Nook.

Oh, I'm so glad!!
I've talked to so many Kindle owners who had no clue that the ebooks were available from the library. I'm surprised that B&N and Sony don't advertise it more. I'm such a cheapskate, I could never buy a reader AND books. I did ebooks on my cell phone until I found out about the library option and that's basically what paid for my Nook.
If you have any trouble with the download, there are instructions all over these forums. Also, I went to this site which had a video which I found helpful:
http://nooktalk.net/news/loading-books-with-adobe-
There is a link in the middle of the page for the video. I ran into trouble and it turned out that restarting my computer after downloading Adobe Digital Editions was what solved the issue, though I don't think you are supposed to need to restart...it just happened to be that way for me.
Thanks for letting me know you made the decision!!

I've started noting the publisher when I find books on Amazon that aren't at B&N. So far, the Amazon only books have been from small niche publishers. I've found enough Amazon-only books that I want to read that I've decided the only solution is to have both an ePub reader and something that'll handle the Kindle App. I'm now waiting for Android tablets to hit the market to see if Amazon will put a Kindle App on it since they're already supporting the Droid. If they don't, I'll probably add an iPad to read Kindle-only books and have a multipurpose device in addition to my eInk reader.

If you find ebooks you want that are on Amazon, but not B&N, you should go to the publisher's website, find the contact information, and ask them "Where's the epub edition?" If there isn't one, point out the B&N PubIt program, and/or Smashwords. If you don't tell the publishers there's a market for non-Kindle devices, they might be clueless enough not to figure it out on their own.

Yep that is how management works. Out of sight out of mind. Must not be an issue as I haven't heard anything of it. Then when it is a problem they are chewing out underlings about why they weren't informed of this issue.
Takes much to get them to acknowledge a situation, gobs of incentive to actual do something about it. And always has to be something in it for them.

LOL if I started writing every publisher of every book I found listed at Amazon and no where else, I wouldn't have time to read! My problem is that I'm reading more and more non-mainstream non-fiction. That's not where B&N wants to grow their catalog -- at least that's what a couple of in-store employees told me. Over the past 6 weeks of owning a Nook, I've realized that the Nook is best for those who primarily read within the domain of the Agency 5 publishers -- popular fiction and non-fiction that shows up on the NYT Bestseller lists. If B&N lists a book outside of the Agency 5 booklists, it's oftentimes more expensive than elsewhere. I'm a frequent Inkmesh user.
I'm also a voracious, fast and eclectic reader. If I didn't read outside the mainstream, I'd quickly run out of things to read. Library checkouts was the primary reason, I chose the Nook. But when I realized lots of folks have more than one eReading device, it became apparent that's the simple solution -- a device for ePub and a device for Amazon -- why chose between them? I can have the best of both worlds.
I have the Nook, so I can wait and see how things develop for the upcoming holiday season. I'm hoping the Android tablet will release and live up to it's early hype and support a Kindle App. I find the 6" screens to be too small for my reading speed -- great for travel -- but at home, I'd like a larger screen. So I'm also a candidate for the Kindle DX -- although I think I'd rather have a multifunction device for the cost of a Kindle DX -- which is why the iPad may also be in the running.

Amazon has been at it for two more years so naturally they should have more ebooks. You think BN can just sign a paper and get thousands of ebooks every week?
Nook been out for 10 months, give it time and grow some patience.
