Re: i just got the old nook and a new nook comes out a month later, wtf?

[ Edited ]

You can sell your current one on eBay or Craigs List or whatever.

The NOOKcolor isn't a new NOOK, it's a different NOOK. The original NOOK is aimed at the serious book-reader. The NOOKcolor is aimed at people who mainly want to read periodicals and childrens' books, and those who tend to read in small bites during the day.

Be sure you know which one you want before you jump. Here's B&N's page for helping you decide: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nook-what-type-of-reader-are-you/379002498/

(By the way, I presume that you spent the extra $50 for the 3G for a reason. The NOOKcolor doesn't come with 3G.)

Re: i just got the old nook and a new nook comes out a month later, wtf?

I'm in the same boat, except for the "wtf" part - because I wouldn't swich to the color nook if they paid me! That's because I only read books on my nook - and I read a lot of books - and my eyes would sue me for cruel and unusual punishment if I switched to a back-lit display. Or reckless endangerment, at the very least.

What an earlier poster said is exactly right - the nook you want depends on what you want to do with it.

Re: i just got the old nook and a new nook comes out a month later, wtf?

Everyone on this board has good points. You have to think about your original reason for purchasing a nook before you complain about a "new one coming out". Unfortunately, that's the price of technology. There's always a "new one" of anything that gets released after the initial swarm of purchasers. Think about the people (I'm one of them) who spent $259 on the first nook only to have the price lowered less than a year later? And now the new device comes out for the same price. Do I feel like I wasted my money on the first one? Not really. I read tons of books (B&W) and have never had a problem with my original nook. The color nook is to compete with those who complained about the original nook vs. the iPad. If I had to guess, B&N probably worked long and hard to get most of the kinks out of their color version before launching it because the iPad has been out for a while.

Re: i just got the old nook and a new nook comes out a month later, wtf?

I'm another one who bought my Nook for $259.  They lowered the prices a few months after that.  It honestly didn't bother me a bit.  I bought my Nook because we were going on vacation and I didn't want to carry my usual stack of books for a week.  I'm glad I bought my Nook and I'm especially glad I didn't wait.

With technology you can't look back.  You make your decision and unless you have the cash to buy everything that comes along you live with it for a while.

Just my philosophy.

Re: i just got the old nook and a new nook comes out a month later, wtf?

Yeah I can understand the frustrations with having the nook, just have have a new(er) type come out.  I was personally disappointed, that I bought the $259 nook after pondering on it for sometime, then two weeks after I got it, it dropped to 199, and you got a free 50 gift card.  It was a bit hard to swallow.  But that is technology.  There is always going to be newer, updated things coming out.  I personally just use the nook for reading.  And when sitting for a doctors appt. or away from the computer to check email/bank etc.  Even to look addresses on the fly.

Although see the new color nook, makes me kinda sad, only because my son uses my Nook alot too, and would love to see his books in colour.  But that being said, perhaps, B&N is looking to that, as a tool to be people like me to purchase the colorNook for either themselves or their kids.

Either way a part of me feels like Im missing out, and another, says "What did I really buy my nook for?"  Books; to enjoy the portability and flexibility of having thousands of books at my fingertips. I don't regret getting my Nook, honestly one of the best purchases I've ever done for myself.

Geezz Louise!!! How many of these whine threads asking the same thing are there going to be??? OP. The NOOK you have is excellent for what you bought it for. Stop complaining and enjoy it. You dont deserve a discount on a new NOOKCOLOR. You bought a piece of tech that was almost a year old at a good price. Live with it. Sheessh. LOL

Re: i just got the old nook and a new nook comes out a month later, wtf?

I think for me the biggest complaint with this release is the fact that I've been doing all this research for the last few months asking if there was going to be any new devices and asking if there was ever going to be word compatibility.  I finally caved 10 days ago and now I have to make a choice whether or not to return my nook and wait until the end of the month for a device that would better suit my needs. And then to have the booksellers telling me they just found out about the nook color the same time I did.  Seriously?

I totally understand your pain. It was a hard pill to swallow when the price dropped for me also.  All in all I am very happy with my Nook.  However, I would like some of the features of the Nook color.  I think the personal shopper and the author suggestion/book suggestion page should be included in the original nook for us avid readers. I also like the better lend me friends page.

Return it and wait till the 19th and then go see in store.  You must excercise your return option within 14 days from purchase.

Then.. go from there.

@MorganaNJ

Yes Seriously. They kept silent about the new device. All we knew as employees was literally the same rumors everyone else could find online only days before the official announcement. We knew nothing as fact until they released it.

I think it best to take people at their word when they say this.  Even if (IF) employees of companies are told about an upcoming product, they are usually told they can't talk about it.  Unfortunately, companies also know that people still will talk so now they don't tell employees anything.  If you have never worked in such a situation, well then lucky you.  I worked for a company that didn't tell employees it had been sold.  I had quit before it happened.  They knew only when reps came in and starting barking out orders for new ways to do things.  Nice.  Often companies don't want chatter about a new product, because they don't want someone to steal their thunder and create the same type of device, but they want just enough pre-press to encourage interest.  This is an idea that is as old as commercialism itself.  If I write a book, I don't want to give too much away before it is copyrighted and out in the marketplace, but I do want to pique the interest of potential readers and publishers alike.

And there have been rumors of a new device coming out for some time now.  Frankly in the digital and electronic age we live in, it is to be expected that a new type or new version of anything you now own will come out mere months after you purchase yours.  For some people this could work out to a year, but if you bought the product later, it could be days.  To avoid this, the only thing a company could do is remove all current stock from store shelves a month before the release of a new device and who thinks that is logical or would ever happen?

The nook color as has been said, is not an upgraded nook, it is a different nook.  It is almost like saying the iPad is an upgrade to the iPhone.  Or even comparing the iPod Touch to the iPhone.  They are different devices and for sometimes similar uses, but often for different uses.

I just got a nook (with wifi and 3g) like a month ago and now i find out a new nook just came out.  is there a way i can switch mine for the newest one and pay a smaller amount?  i think this is bs.  Had i known the new nook was coming out i would of held out for it.

I think I understand the confusion here.

@Xenia22 - you did NOT get the old NOOK. You got the e-Ink B/W Nook.

NOOKColor is not a new version of the NOOK, it is a different product in the same family. Comparing the two is like saying I just bought a Ford Escort and Ford just came out with an Expedition.

They are two very different products, one does not replace the other.

So enjoy your NEW (only one month old) E-Ink NOOK. After all if you had wanted a color LCD eReader there were already a number of choices out there at the time you bought your NOOK.

Trade-ins ( new nook)

Will there be any trade ins, i.e.. Like a certain % off of the old nook in order to purchase the new color nook??? I do enjoy my original nook but I would truly love to get my hands on the color one.I've been waiting on something like this from B&N, I almost consider the Apple I-Pad. (but held out)!!

Re: Trade-ins ( new nook)

I agree, I love my nook but the nook color is an amazing upgrade but there's no point in paying twice for basically the same product. If anyone finds out anything please let us know!! Thank you!!

Re: Trade-ins ( new nook)

I will be your trade in service.

I will give $50 for wifi nook and $70 for 3g nooks that people no longer want and are in good condition. I will then sell them on ebay and craigslist for profit.

Best and only trade in program in town :smileywink:

NOOKcolor is not the same product and is not considered an upgrade from NOOK 3G/WiFi. It is aimed at a different audience with different needs and has a whole suite of different advantages and disadvantages.

There are no plans for a trade-in program.

I highly recommend comparing the feature set and technology of the Nook Color vs. the original Nook.  The color is certainly not an "upgrade".  It is a completely different product.

NOOK exchange?

I have had my NOOK for about a month. Upon finding out about the NOOKcolor, I have decided I would prefer the new one. The biggest problem I have is that I just paid for the other. Would anyone know if there is/will be a way to trade in NOOK for a discount on NOOKcolor?

Dont worry about finding the receipt because the return policy at BN is 14 days. There several threads on this topic already. Best thing to do if you really want the Nookcolor (which i think is a step down since its not e-ink) Is to sell your Nook on ebay or craislist. You should be able to get at least half of what you paid. There will probably be a eink Nook 2 out sometime next year. Nookcolor is not NOOK 2.
