New Adobe Digital Editions "preview"

This one slipped by me... it's about three weeks old.

Adobe Labs has released the latest "preview" of Adobe Digital Editions 1.8. This one is called either ADE 1.8.2 or ADE 1.8 Preview 3, your choice.

The big deal is that 1.8 can read NOOK Books, but earlier ADE preview releases couldn't talk to your NOOK. Adobe says that 1.8.2 can talk to your NOOK via USB and read NOOK Books. In fact, they say that the only things that aren't working is printing from an e-book (how often do you do that?) and localization for use by non-Americans.

It sounds to me like ADE 1.8.2 is basically "there" for what we need. Who'd like to try it out and report back if all of this is true?

Re: New Adobe Digital Editions "preview"

I thought printing from an ebook was deliberately blocked by the publishers.

Re: New Adobe Digital Editions "preview"

Has anyone tried this and do you have any comments?  Did they fix anything other than what is stated on the website, such as

How it sorts the books?  Does it leave out the "The" when by title.

Does it sort on authors last name, not a combination of both, depending on the book?

Does it sort date last added by newest to oldest?

Does it have any type of search function?  I've found with the number of books I have purchased that use this, it is getting harder and harder to find what I want.

The following is for "List" view. In the "Thumbnails" view, the direction of order is whatever was last used in List view.

How it sorts the books?  Does it leave out the "The" when by title. No, it's still stupid. Also, on the first click on the "Title" header, it sorts them in reverse order so you have to click the header again. Or use the drop-down or Ctrl-Shift-1 to get it right the first time.

Does it sort date last added by newest to oldest? Either way. Click the "Date Added" header until it's sorted how you want it. On the first click it's newest at the top. If you use the drop-down or Ctrl-Shift-5, they start with oldest at the top.

Does it have any type of search function?  I've found with the number of books I have purchased that use this, it is getting harder and harder to find what I want. No, there's still no search facility.

Re: New Adobe Digital Editions "preview"

Thanks Doug,

So basically, there's no point in "upgrading" since the only thing I see it does is read NookBooks now, which I don't really need.

I didn't realize that by going to list view I had some options to change the sort order, I always use Thumbnail view.
