Last night and once last week while in the Shop section of the LCD strip I was typing in book titles or author titles and the screen went dark. It was not that it went dark after being inactive since I was still able to type although not being able to see what letter i was hitting on the black screen. Does this mean that it is going out gradually? Has anyone else had this problem? How long will it continue to work until I should think about getting a Nook ST/2e? Thanks in advance.

Mine goes dark occasionally, and I simply cycle the unit off and on to restore the LCD backlight. I experience a number of minor glitches, like in Sudoku when I've selected a cell and it's supposed to be bringing up the screen with the choice of digits and instead takes me back to the home screen, but these are minor annoyances and I live with them. I don't think the 1.7 firmware was B&N's finest work (but then, the 1.6 was even worse).
I keep mine in Airplane Mode except when downloading a new title, but I doubt that makes any difference.
I think I've rebooted the unit a few times since these problems started, with no noticeable effect. Maybe I'll reboot it anyway, on general principles. The only cost of rebooting is the start-up delay.

When mine did it I hit the button on the top to put it in sleep mode and hit it again to bring it back in active status but then had to re-type what I had already typed. No big deal there.
How long has your been doing the black out thing?
I was going to get a Simple Touch or the ST Glow to replace it but if it is not going out then I will just keep using the one that I have. I leave mine in airplane mode all the time except when I go to Shop. That is the only problem that I have and I have never noticed anything with the games because I don't play them.
