Not A Big Fan Of N2E "Page Buttons"

Since they require more than a light touch to use and the rubber frame surrounding the screen is a veritable fingerprint magnet, I decided to buy another Griffin stylus like the one I already use with my iPad. Even the lightest touch of the stylus' tip onscreen registers instantly and page turns work perfectly. The stylus is also useful for pinpointing individual words whenever I want to look up a definition. :smileyhappy:

Re: Not A Big Fan Of N2E "Page Buttons"

The nook's touch interface is a grid of IR lasers that detect a point of interference when you touch which registers to the screen as a press.

You can sort of test this by "hovering" barely over the screen and possibly see a touch register while knowing you didn't actually touch it.

Also, by this logic anything can be used to interface with the touchscreen. Rubber eraser on the back of a pencil, denim when its in your pocket, fingernails.

ie. It isn't a necessity to buy a stylus pen that capacitive touchscreens like current generation phones and tablet would require.

I have not found myself using the physical buttons much either.  Generally, I just very lightly tap with a finger or my right thumb on the screen right up against the right edge of the frame.

I just touch the lower right corner to turn the page, myself. I hardly ever use the buttons either.

Same here. I think I used them once or twice just to see that they worked, but I bought a touch screen reader for a reason. :smileywink:

Re: Not A Big Fan Of N2E "Page Buttons"

I use the buttons for fast scrolling, or sometimes to work my way down through a menu instead of having to touch a particular up/down arrow at the bottom of the screen.

For page turning, I do what others have said... touch the edge of the screen.

Re: Not A Big Fan Of N2E "Page Buttons"

I've used the buttons on the right side a bit, particularly the bottom one as that's my page forward button, because that's where my thumb usually rests when holding it.  After a little bit of use they start to get a little easier to press.  Still don't match the touchscreen though.

Ditto here.

I think that's probably my most favorite thing about the N2E.

The only time I use the buttons is when I'm petting the cat with my other hand.

Re: Not A Big Fan Of N2E "Page Buttons"

I really don't like the buttons.  I read in bed on my back holding the nook by the frame.  I have to be very careful not to touch one of the buttons and turn the page.  I wish I could turn them off.  I've seen that others in the discussion groups wish they could turn the touch page turner off.  I guess it would be nice if we could choose one or both.

I honestly don't understand how you can turn the page with the button by accident.   On my N2E you have to press that button pretty hard to get a response.
