Of course, of course. The NC charger would supply too much power. Hopefully the masses can see the difference between the NC and the N1e/N2e chargers.
But then again I expect too much from humanity ![]()

I tend to as well, which is why I decided to say something to distinguish them. ![]()

BTW, I just got my Nook 2 yesterday. Awesome!
I have the original Nook but not the NC. When I compared the two plugs they had the exact same specs. 5V at .85mA. So to me, you should not have any damage using the original Nook Classic. Don't know what the specs are on the NC.

I have copied this directly from the nook2e user manual as posted on the b&n website:
CAUTION:
Only use the Barnes & Noble power adapter and custom microUSB cable supplied with your NOOK. Other power adapters might damage your NOOK and its battery. Do not use a power adapter and cable intended for other models of NOOK eReader. Use only a NOOK power adapter and cable.
What I'm reading here says do not use power adaptors and cable intended for other models of NOOK eReader.
A salesperson at B&N verifed this.

Note the wordage "power adaptor"... it is not a "charger"... the charging circuit is in the device.
From what I can find out, the NC power adaptor is 5Vdc @ 1900mA.
This means the N1 and N2 will charge fine from the NC adaptor, but the NC will charge at less than half the speed on an N1/N2 adaptor (850mA)... it will also likely damage the cable and adaptor trying to draw over twice that it's rated for.
It should also be noted that the NC cable does not charge from a laptop USB port (500mA) for the same reason.
B&N are covering their a$$ by making the disclaimer... it also helps drive OE assessory sales.
It is obvious that the best choice is what came with the device, but what will and wont work is based on physics, not on a sales pitch.

The only difference between chargers of the orginal Nook (N1E) and the new Nook STR (N2E) is one is black and the other one white. They both draw the same amount of AC power, the bothb supply the same amount of 5 volt DC power.
Any decent phone charger with a USB Micro B connector which can supply 850 mA (AKA 0.85 A) will work fine.

So you use your Nook 2 charger on your NC and it works fine? I just bought a nook 2 charger and used it on my NC but I don't think it works.

See the message above about power, voltage, and amperage. Both B&N "power adapters" supply 5vDC, and that's the only thing that, if wrong, could damage the Nooks. The different current rating denotes the AVAILABILITY of power, and not any power that is "forced" upon the Nooks.
One wonders if Mr. Barnes is retiring, and the "B" now stands for something else, because B&N's statements in the manual about this, is pure "B". In which case, Mr. Noble needs to retire soon as well, and be replaced by Mr. Smith and the appropriate company name change.
If you don't believe me, consider the vehicle "power adapter" from B&N, which is sold for ALL Nooks.
I wouldn't give it a second thought to use any of the Nook "power adapters" interchangeably, with the only caveat that the 0.5A adapters will charge the NC/NT very slowly.
Think of voltage as water pressure, and rated (max) amperage as the diameter of the water pipes leading to your house.

With the cable having the capability of carrying bidirectional communications between the Nook and charger a lot depends on what capabilities are designed into the Nook and the various charger models. Hypotheticaly Nook could tell the charger how much much current it takes to charge its battery or the charger could tell the Nook its capacity and either device could cycle charging on and off (posibly not charging at all) to keep the charger from overheating. As many incidens there have been in the last decade or so of rechargable batteries catching fire the liability insurers would (IMHO) be justified in insisting on such features.
