Sharing books between Nook BW and Nook Color. also the LendMe option

We just added a Nook Color to our household.  We want to past books from one Nook to the other.  I download a book from the Nook BW B&N library to my computer and side loaded it into my Nook Color.  I tried to open it and it asks from the owners name and credit card number to unlock it.  I entered this information but the Nook Color would not unlock it.  I know people can do this operation between two Nooks BW.  Any idea how to make this work between the different versions?

The other problem we are having is using LendMe option.  I have added each other to our friends lists on both machines.  I make the Nook Color's books visible but the Nook BW can't see them.  The Nook BW has the ver 1.5 software.  The Nook Color can't see the lendable on the Nook BW either.  I can't find an option to make the Nook BW lendable books visible.  So how can I make the two machines see each others lendable libraries?

First, are two nooks registered to the same account?

No? Then all you do is sideload the book, enter the original book owners info and share away.

As to lend me, two things...if you sideload then you don't really need to share and I think the viewable lend me is only available on the nookcolor.

We have two B&N accounts.  I have downloaded two books from the Nook BW Library and sideloaned them into the Nook Color.  Neither will unlock on the Nook Color.  I don't understand why I can see the lendable books on the Nookcolor from our Nook BW library.

Because the e-ink NOOK does not support the feature of browsing another accounts "lendable" library.

You can still loan an eBook from one NOOK to the other, bur you must do it the pre-NOOKColor way and lend it from the account that has the book to the email address of the other NOOK.

Thanks Larry,  Still I wonder why I can't unlock the sideloaded book on the Nook Color. :-(

What happens when you try to open the sideloaded book?

It should ask you for the information required to unlock it. Does it display any kind of error? IS the book you are copying over an ePub or a PDB?

These were epub books purchased from B & N.  The Nook color asks for the information, I enter it and dialog box disappears for a second and then returns empty of the information.  No error message is displayed.  I have tried adding the 3 digit security code to the credit card number but the results are the same.  It is like the feature is not enabled on the Nook Color.

In order to unlock it, you need to enter the credit card on the account where you got the book in the first place. My husband and I did this last week when we got him a nookcolor, and it worked fine. You only have to enter it once, and it unlocks all of them. (I hope this made sense- I read Doug Pardee's instructions to do it, and they worked really well).

I did it on my nookcolor with no problem as well.

Who's cc are you using? It has to be the purchaser of the original book.

Thank you but I am using the name and credit card number that the book was purchased.  Question for you.  where did you put the book?  Into the my document folder?  Also did you copy from Nook BW to Nook Color?   Did you side load from one Nook to the other?

Also did you have wifi on or off?

One thing that's not obvious: the "name" is the name on the account, not the name on the credit card. If you go to My NOOK Library here on the B&N site, you'll see the correct name listed in the "Unlock Code" just below the big title "My NOOK Library".

Wow Doug you are da Man!  The credit card has a middle initial and the account name did not.  But the dialog box on the Nook Color asked for the name on the credit card. So after hours of banging my head, I got the book unlock.

Thank you

I put the book into the documents folder.

I copy from the nook for pc account, which I assume is universal nook & nookcolor.

Then I side load it via usb. That's actually the only way I know to do it.

How are you trying to do this?

Doug Pardee has some really good links in his signature that help A LOT!

Re: Sharing books between Nook BW and Nook Color. also the LendMe option

Just a clarification for people reading this thread.

Everyone keeps posting that they unlock the book with the credit card information that was used to purchase the book.

This is NOT the case. You must use the credit card that was on the account at the time the book was DOWNLOADED from B&N.

I suspect that in 99% of the cases the card used to purchase and download the book is the same card, however for that 1% of you who have changed default credit card since buying the book and then download it for side-loading to your new NOOK, you must use the credit card that was in place when you downloaded it.

Re: Sharing books between Nook BW and Nook Color. also the LendMe option

I had the opposite happen.  When I set up my daughter's NOOKcolor, I wasn't even asked as for credit card information when I sideloaded my books on her device. I did set up her account with her name on the account, my alternate e-mail address, my credit card and my name on the shipping address.  Does the NOOKcolor automatically generate a key based on the information on the account when you provide it a login?  If so, then the shipping name and credit card would be the same on both accounts, so maybe it's generating a key based on that. Anyone know?

Yes that is what is happening.

Re: Sharing books between Nook BW and Nook Color. also the LendMe option

I am attempting to share books from my Nook Color to my husband's Simple Touch. I saved the books that I wanted to share, and sideloaded them successfully to his Nook. However, when I try to unlock the books, it doesn't let me. I have entered my name as it appears on my credit card, as well as how it appears on my BN account, over and over...no dice. I tried the credit card number both with and without spaces. I am losing my mind. Does anyone have any insight into how I can unlock these downloaded books on his device?
