Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Shelves on Multiple Nooks/Same Account

No luck with a forum search on this one, so I'll ask in a fresh thread:  if I buy a second Nook registered to the same account, say for my wife's birthday, can I set up different shelves on each device that operates on the same account?  In other words, are the shelves device-specfic, or account specific?  The idea would be for us each to share the same account, but organize our books differently.

I would guess that you can set up separate shelves, since users have reported if they have to unregister the device they lose the shelves.  However, I believe that it is still true and all books will be downloaded to all devices attached to the account, so your wife will have the same books on her Nook as you do on yours.  Someone else may have more information on it, but right now I think shelves are device specific.

Another option for sharing books with your wife is Doug's post on sharing books with family members, the link is in my signature and can be useful if you don't read the same type books.

Re: Shelves on Multiple Nooks/Same Account

You can set up different shelves, and the shelves do not automatically appear when more than one device is registered to an account.

What cannot be different though, is the books that are archived.
