Re: Suggested Improvements For V 1.5

My wish list for V 1.5

1.  To be able to organize my books in order (move them in front or behind another book)... such as the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon and so on... I purchased them all in order but they are NOT in order.

It makes it hard sometimes when I find a new series (and buy them all) and have to look up which book is the next to read or keep a note pad with the book titles in order.

Julia Quinn's Brigerton series at least says #1, #2 and so on... after each book in my library, although they are not in order, the series # of the book was next to them all so it was very helpful.

2.  To be able to "Check Mark" or "Tag" books that i've already read (but can read again).

Both of these suggestions would work together.

PS... I LOVE MY NOOK !!!

Re: Suggested Improvements For V 1.5

1: Organization, organization, organization....

2: Search feature for MyDocuments, search by Author, Title, Subject, Series, etc.  More organization and options for MyDocuments. (Show Covers for MyDocuments would be nice)

3: Create your own playlist for the Audio Player.  More organization and options for the Audio Player.

Re: Suggested Improvements For V 1.5

I would like all content to be in one folder rather than B&N content and memory card content always being separate. The ability to organize into folders would be helpful also.

If this is not possible, can we have a search feature in the "My Documents" folder so that I don't have to hit the "Next" arrow 50 times to get to the middle of my list? This feature works great for B&N content.

My suggestions is to go on Android 2.1 or 2.2 and better PDF support especially pictures in pdf when using larger text.

This is what I've been waiting for in the next update: a way to see how many pages are left in the chapter! I agree with the past user that suggested this! I like to know how much longer I have to read before I'm at a good stopping point and that's hard to do when you just have to page through until you find the chapter's end.

I'd actually like this as well - the other day I was using the iphone app (a rare moment when I had forgotten my nook), and noticed that the "progress bar" at the bottom of the page actually had little lines indicating each chapter break.  While not a page count, it was still pretty helpful in determining whether I was near or far from the end of the chapter.

Only if they give us some sort of organization options.  :smileysad:

(I sound like a broken record, I know, but eReader improvements are more important to me than games, social networking, music and so on.)

Oops.  My post was in reply to Rav_Bunneh's about taking away the 1000 book limit.

The Go-To-Page feature is nice, but the slider is a little bit too inaccurate. It'd be nice if there was a way in type in a specific page as well, but no big rush there.

Ahh, I haven't loaded 1.4 yet, but that stinks that Go To Page isn't a specific page number, but a slider.  Don't get me wrong, I think the slider idea was a good one, perhaps a way to get the feel of flipping through a physical book, but entering an exact page number would a nice finishing touch to the feature.

App idea

I have just purchased the Nook, and love it!  I can throw in my purse and off I go.  Perfect size!  I would like to see one app added to the menu....how about a Calendar, and be able to schedule appointments, such as book club meeting.  I know it won't replace my laptop but sure is easier to view than my pda, which I cannot see anymore due to very small screen.

I wish that when I was in a book, I could click a button that says "More by this author..." and be taken to the store. That way, I don't have to worry about writing down the name, or if i misspelled the author and need to go back and check it before navigating back to the store.

Now this one is one I agree with 100%. "More by this author" and "Next in the series" options.

The only other option I want is the ability to remove bloatware requested by other users and forced upon me. I want an ereader. Not a game machine, not a browser, not anything else. If you want it, fine. But I want a way to removing it from my nook.

I agree, I would love to be able to use my nook as an organizer as well.  Especially the use of a calendar to put event, appointment, and special dates in. This is a MUST!!

Solitaire???

Any chance that solitaire will be added to the "Games" section?

Re: Suggested Improvements For V 1.5

I find that the Nook is just fine when I am reading fictional materials. However, I also read a lot of books for business and underline various parts to use in my business or for further research. The underlining process on Nook is super tedious and book marks are too imprecise for me to get to the specific sentences I need.

I would love to have a much easier way to underline important information.

Also, in my business, my colleagues and I often do book studies. They are all using hard copies of the books and when they refer to an item on page 272, my pages, of course do not match theirs. It would really be helpful to know the font and font size of the hard copies so I could match my Nook to their books.

If your books are in epub format, it makes no difference what font size you use; the page numbers will remain static.  That's why it  can take a few page turns for the page number to change.

I can't vouch for the veracity of this, but I read on another board here that the page numbers on B&N ebooks are set based on what fits on a single page in the B&N ebook reader PC software and are not set to coincide with the print books, so the pages will never match up between formats.

Critical - Folders

Nice:

Ability to mark side-loaded books as Read (Similar to Archive for BN version, in particular desire ability to hide/show read books)

Get to when can:

Ability to delete side-loaded content
Ability to replace the built-in dictionary (Far too small)

Re: Suggested Improvements For V 1.5

I'll echo the requests to be able to organize our e-books in any way we want. Organizing by folders and folders within folders would be fantastic. It would also be very useful to be able to find books by "tag". I believe someone mentioned the Calibre tags, and that would be a very useful feature. In fact, if the books could be organized in groups by tag in a similar fashion to the way iTunes organizes music, that would be even more useful. Having a long list of books, even sorted by Author, Title and Most Recent can be burdonsome when you have hundreds of books in your collection.

The other thing that would be fantastic is the ability to add, organize, and read RSS and Atom feeds. With that feature, I would spend 80%-90% of my reading time on the nook. As things stand, the browser on the nook, while nice, is still Beta and a little hard to use, so I need to go out to my computer or another mobile device to read RSS feeds. I would rather have a dedicated RSS/Atom feature anyway, perhaps with social networking features. I'm tempted to put this as my number one request, but I agree that organizing the ebooks is a more dire need.

Thirdly, making the highlight and note feature easier to use would be a boon for serious readers and scholars. I hesitate to mention iAnnotate, but having something like that on the nook would be a coup.

The "Go to page.." feature was also an acute need. Many thanks to the B&N devel team for making that a priority. Also, the "look up any word" in the dictionary function is very nice.

Re: Suggested Improvements For V 1.5

I would REALLY  like to be able to delete directly from the nook instead of having to log onto the site...

I also agree with the suggestion for being able to mark the books I've read somehow.

those are the two biggies to me.

Notes - Need a List!

I am finding it hard to believe that I need to be on the page in the book where I made a note in order to find the note.

How hard can it be to create a list of notes made in a book for ease of reference?

When is this feature being added?

Re: Notes - Need a List!

[ Edited ]

I agree. It's ridiculous. The way it's been done elsewhere (mobipocket reader for instance), is that a tiny snippet of the highlight (or the place where you added the note) is appended to the page number in the list of bookmarks (that on the nook shows up simply as a list of page numbers - again, VERY unhelpful if you're going through your bookmarks trying to find a particular one). I'm forced to pretend that the annotation/highlight/bookmark features don't exist at all lest I be reminded of how useless they are. The bookmark feature as it stands is useful to me only to mark my current page (in case I read a different book for a while or the book has endnotes so that the "farthest read point" is not a viable option. As for marking/annotating interesting passages in the book (and later retrieving them efficiently), I have found the nook extraordinarily unhelpful. *sigh* oh well.

The sad part is that ALL the problems that people have been complaining about (in terms of the nook as a BOOK reading device) have been solved more than 6 years ago (again, the prime example being mobipocket reader). If I were making a new ereader device, I would start by going through the feature sets that previous software makers have (through painful experience) settled upon. It's tragic that B&N felt the need to re-invent the wheel and even more tragic that they decided to start with a square wheel. We are now forced to slowly converge towards the round shape again, update by update. Lubed bearings are but a distant light on the horizon :smileysad:

The cake is a lie.
