Priority 1. No, make that priority 0. This had dang well better get into the next software release, or there are going to be a lot of unhappy NOOKers:
- Organizational tools for e-books, both B&N and sideloaded. MUST HAVE MUST HAVE MUST HAVE! Sorry, I got a bit carried away, but this is really a sore point. We've been asking for it from Day 1, all the other major e-readers have it, and without organizational tools the "1500 e-book capacity" is a sick joke and the ability to add microSD is of limited use. The highlight/note feature is also crippled, because the highlights and notes go away when you remove an e-book to make room on the list for another. Seriously, organization is a critical missing feature.
Priority 2:
- Either the ability to delete sideloaded content, or to mark it as read (similar system to archiving in the B&N Library), or both. Including the "nook Tour".
- Ability to search titles/authors of sideloaded content the way that we can search in the B&N Library.
- More flexible PDF handling. Other e-readers offer zoom and pan, so I'm pretty sure it's in Adobe Reader Mobile. Landscape rotation would be nice, too.
- Fix the dictionary bugs related to certain words.
Priority 3:
- Screensaver option of "current book cover".
- Make Sudoku's "easy" level more in line with the "easy" levels in Sudoku books.
- More font choices.
- Ability to download e-books using the Web browser.
- Organizational tools for audio files. For pity's sake, at least separate the audiobooks from the music files! Sheesh. Playlists would be highly desirable.
- Improved highlight/note handling. Make them accessible from a list. Provide a way to offload the highlights and notes onto a computer, preferably in some kind of printable format.
- Integrate "B&N Library" and "My Documents".
- Coverflow for "My Documents".

I would like to be able to delete sample downloads or purchases that I no longer want on the nook. Unless it is already available and I just don't know it yet.

Do you happen to know if there is a way to add sample books to your wish list as well? Some I would like to delete, some I would like to purchase at a later time, unless it is buried in the nook users guide....

No, you just add the actual ebook to your wishlist.

Is it possible to have a list of words that are searched for definitions archived for later use? If not it would be nice if this service could be provided by BN. It would be a big help for SATs, etc....

There's a name for what you're asking for: it's called a "dictionary". There's one on your Nook, although it's a little buggy. You can also find it at www.onelook.com. ![]()

Firstly, I'm very happy with the nook and the new features in v1.4.0.
However, along the same lines as this older post (to which I couldn't reply due to the old board) I think the "Search" feature when shopping warrants some attention.
There are several options that, if added to searches or to an "advanced search" type feature would greatly benefit the device and make the perfect search much more user friendly and attainable.
------------------------
1. Searching by author, title, or genre
This is a standard feature in most book/eBook searches now-a-days..curious that it isn't it native to the nook.
2. Searching within a specific genre or across multiple genres
The thing is, this is a 21st century device.. Why limit users to trudging through two or more other distinct genres (or all genres in some cases) in an electronic search for a book that will appeal to their tastes? Let us choose which genre(s) we want our search to encompass please.
3. Sorting results
This exists in a limited fashion at the moment in the My Library part of the software, but not at all in the Shop.
Features such as displaying a single author or genre's results and removing authors/genres from the results would make searching a much easier and intuitive experience.
------------------------
All in all, I know it's still in the early stages of development and it's looking good..I just wanted to put this out there as it has been of the most hinderance to me when I'm enjoying my new nook (:
P.S. Why group Sci Fi, Fantasy & Horror all together? While there has been a pretty wide acceptance of the combining of Science Fiction and Fantasy, especially with authors releasing books in both genres, it's still a bit odd to throw Horror in with them...(this ties back to options 1&2)

I wish I was able to download a book from my library directly to my Nook. (I know they don't want to have this feature, but its something I would like)
I also wish there was a way to lock certain books so I can let my kids use the Nook without them coming across some language in books I would rather they don't read.

To paraphrase another member:
Priority 1.
- Seriously, organization is a critical missing feature. Try loading 200 technical manuals in PDF format for work on your Nook. Then try and find one in short order

Priority 2:
- More flexible PDF handling. Other e-readers offer zoom and pan, so I'm pretty sure it's in Adobe Reader Mobile. Landscape rotation would be nice, too.
- Either the ability to delete sideloaded content, or to mark it as read (similar system to archiving in the B&N Library), or both. Including the "nook Tour".
Things I'd like to see.:
- A note pad/ reminder/ post it note app. With physical books I usually use Note for little reminders, grocery list, etc...
- Coverflow for "My Documents"/ PDF's.

Are there any updates on the horizon to update the Music player on the nook? The features are pretty weak with only sorting the songs by title or allowing a shuffle. It would be much nicer to be able to play by artist, album, etc.

You have just described the only major weekness presently on the Nook. It needs to be able to allow user set up folder structures for songs, books, and PDF. I'm hopeing they address this soon.

Hello,
I am a disabled young man who has difficulty turning the pages of a book. I have been looking for an e-reader that would afford me the benefit of reading without turning the pages by pressing a button. I have tried the Kindle and was hugely disappointed. The same goes for the iPad.
Would it be possible to add a feature to the Nook software that would allow a user to have the pages be turned based on adjustable seconds? Since the Nook is based on Android (power to Open Source!) can this be added? This would help me very much. I look forward to hearing from the Nook Team.
This would help so many disabled people.
Thank you.

I would like it if they added an auto scroll function, that would really help many people I think, someone else earlier this week also wanted this function.
There have been many that have said they didn't want the ability to add 3rd party apps, I totally disagree with this. No one is forcing you to add an app, and this is just one of the areas where a 3rd party app could help.

I don't think you could make an autoscroll feature usable on e-ink. Think of what the page turns are like and imagine that reverse flash constantly as the display scrolled. The devices that have this feature have LCD displays. Now, auto page turns -- that would be a great compromise that should be feasible with e-ink.

I would like to be able to make a request for certain books that currently arn't available on the nook. For example, I would love to have The Silmarillion by J.R.R Tolkien. ![]()

Sideload word document support would be wonderful, even if it is a read only format. I would be able to put my manuscripts on there instead of toting around 3lbs. of paper. (Yes, I have weighed it.) ![]()

@ Darkkin,
Can Calibre convert your manuscripts to epub? Not sure, but worth checking it out, no?

Add a feature to the Nook software that would allow a user to have the pages be automatically turned based on adjustable seconds.

Are we ever going to be able to turn the Nook sideways and take advantage of the wide format ?
