Of course this is all my own opinion...
There are way too many "B&N is being sold blah blah blah" threads. We all know this and we all complain about it...
STOP POSTING TO THEM!
I think we have all had our say on the matter, why continue to encourage all the BS? Let the newbies (trolls, whatever!) find the threads on their own (it's really hard to look down 3 or 4 topics but maybe they can do it!) and let's bow out of this mess. Let them work a little and find our opinions rather than us stating them over and over and over...
Okay, I feel better now and stepping off the soapbox! ![]()

So true, even though I just commended John on his response and made a flip comment. We've got better things to discuss, like JJ's trip to Austin for an interview.

Again, FrogAlum, you are the nook boards guru with the wisdom to cut through the BS.
Amen, to all you said!
I'm taking a vow from henceforth to ignore & not respond in any thread I find useless and annoying, including the ones about the "sale" of B&N.
I'm tired of wasting my tired and energy on these things, when I could be having meaningful, intelligent conversations in threads I actually care about.
It's time to take back the boards! I'm setting aside my tendency to smack down with those I disagree with and going to strive to create and participate in only the types of threads I would want to read. I'm not saying it all has to be goodness and light without any kind of debate, I'm just going to stop bending to certain levels. Like anyone, I can be tempted to snark, but I'm gonna do my best to put the brakes on that.
Welcome to a new day!

Good one! Really funny.
@FrogAlum
These posts annoy me too, but so do others. Not sure I get the "Take Back Control" idea. You want to take back the control? Mmmm....

Ditto!
Braking now and biting tongue, albeit for reasons different than yours, I suspect.

We know that he's going to blow them away. The open questions are:
1. By how much?
2. Will Austin be so hot this week that he won't get a chance to see how cool it really is?

Same here -- even the next time someone asks "How do I turn on the backlight on the reading screen."
I'll shut up and pretend it never happened, so help me God! ![]()
And that goes for "The sky is falling!!!!! B&N is for sale!!!!!" too.

100 for a high on Friday per weather.com. He's staying downtown, so it'll be cool.

To all of you "regular" posters - i.e. Doug, Frog, etc. I just wanted to take a moment to add that I thought all of your responses on this topic (B&N for sale) were well informed and well...................rational <smile> at least a LOT more so than the biased reporting in the article that got it all rolling. Also - since Im on the subject - to say thanks for all the contributions you guys and/or gals make to this board. I've learn something valuable nearly every time I read one of your posts.

So I had a very bad time yesterday. I was flown down to interview with a Fortune 500 company for an intern position. I was heavily recruited for this position and have been studying up on the company for weeks.
All I needed to do was meet with the VPs to make sure i had the right personality for the company and the position would have been mine.
Anyway I land in Texas at 10 PM and go to my hotel where I have a bite to eat. I make sure I am in bed by midnight and have my phone alarm set for 5:30 and a wake up call scheduled for 5:30 as well. When I interview I like to wake up early, go for a run, and give myself ample time to get prepared and do some last minute studying. I usually get to interviews 30 minutes early and either wait outside or find a place to go until about 10 minutes before the interview. That is when I finally go into the building.
So my nightmare: My phone died and the hotel never gave me my wake up call. I wake up at 8:25 just five minutes before my interview is scheduled to begin. I immediately call my recruiter and let him know what happened and he phones on to headquarters to let them know I will be late. I rush to get ready (I nicked myself pretty bad shaving to it bled forever) and go downstairs to check out of the hotel. Luckily I was able to get the hotel to comp my night so the company did not have to pay it. The hotel also called the company and told them that I did not receive my wake up call like I had asked for.
Anyway I got to the interview about an hour late after everything was done. Luckily I was able to meet with the three out of the four VPs though they had to reschedule my flight home as well as their schedules to meet with me.
The interviews went great and i could tell that the VPs knew I was one of the best candidates for this position. (I wasn't interviewing against anyone for this position I was interviewing against myself) The one VP came in with a clock and told me he thought that I needed this more then him. By the end of meeting with him he told me that he thought I would be great for the position and he would give me his thumbs up for the position.
The other two interviews also went well. Unfortunately I was not able to meet with one of the VPs.
I pretty much know that I gave up the position when I was late but I can only hope that I WOWed them enough in the interviews to make them overlook my carelessness. I have even thought about asking my previous employer (who is a chief of surgery at a world renown hospital) to write them an email stating what kind of a worker I am but in the end decided it would just hurt me by bringing it back up. This position would be a dream job for me and I cant stop beating myself up for how stupid I was. I knew flying down that the position was mine and then I had to go screw it up. Since this is a very high stressful position I hope that if anything they can see how well I handle stress even if it is self induced.
My day just got progressively worst. I left my cell in the cab that I took to the airport. My watch broke. And the icing on the cake: My flight was canceled and had to stay in Tx untill 6am the following morning. Luckily the airlines got me a hotel room for the night.
Sorry for my ranting and please keep your fingers crossed I should find out on monday (two days from now)

Ouch JD - what a stessful day! I certainly wish you well with the interview process and hope you will be getting good news soon. As for all your challenges/delays - who knows perhaps it was karmas way of keeping you from an unsafe situation (car accident, etc) that would have been beyond your control. You just never know.

And, JJ, maybe you proved to them how you handle situations that are outside the norm. Texans can be pretty laid back.
If you do get it, we'll turn you into a Rangers fan.
I guess you could be saying "When will B&N put an alarm clock feature on the nook?"

Monday and Tuesday are supposed to be the hottest of the year (that means upwards of probably 105 degrees.
It's hot.
Is it TOO hot? It is never too hot to see how cool Austin really is... you just have to be kinda careful of the heat... drink LOTS of water. OH...and if you can... see the Congress Street Bridge Bat population. THAT is wicked cool to watch at sunset.
