Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

You can leave the device plugged in, and it won’t ruin the battery

Allowing the battery to discharge and then fully charge from time to time will extend the overall length of the battery.  However, this won’t be noticed until after several charges.

@Michael,

I think you need to walk down the hall and have a word with Ray, the CSR who sent the original reply.

Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

I e-mailed customer service again and asked essentially, "are you sure charging the battery overnight will damage it?  This is their reply:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Unfortunately, the previous representative provided incorrect
information regarding the nook's battery. The nook's battery is designed
to restrict power once fully charged; this feature allows the user to
leave the device charging unsupervised. The orange light indicator
(located at the bottom of the device) will turn off when the nook is
fully charged; also restricting the power source.

To address your question about setting "high and low battery levels";
our developers have provided these charging recommendations to maximize
battery life.

*Partially discharge the battery rather than fully discharging it. For
example, charge your nook when you see the low charge alert, rather than
continuing to use it until it turns off itself.

* Avoid high temperatures if possible for use and storage

*charge the battery half way before storing your nook for a week or
more.

*Turn your nook off for storage. If you are going to store your nook for
more that a week, turn it off.

The user manual for the nook is located on the device itself as a .pdf

Go to: My library> View my documents> nook user guide.

*You can also visit http://www.nook.com/support to download a digital
copy.

I hope this information was helpful.

We look forward to your next visit.

Sincerely,

Steven

Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

I'm glad this is getting straightened out, but boy is this a painful process.

Wouldn't it be better to just put a competent developer on this board from time to time?

I was THIS close to posting the first CS's letter on SlashDot.  It was only my total disbelief that prevented me from doing so.

Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

Now there's a concept - storing my nook for a week?  That won't happen!

Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

Bottom line: B&N "tech" support or customer support understands little if anything about the Nooks and accessories their company is selling.  Don't take it just from me, an end user.  Ask management and staff at three B&N outlets in Northern Virginia I've talked to.  They are even more frustrated that I am because of the volume of ticked customers seeking "second opinions" they have to babysit.

Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

Bottom line: Why are you responding to a dead thread from 7 months ago?  I'm sorry but I'm not going to travel from NJ to Northern VA to find the frustrated management and staff that you talked to.   What is this "second opinion" babysitting you're talking about?  I certainly have no idea what you're talking about.

By the way, I can always find someone who can complain just as I can always find someone who is happy about the product.  It's just the way things are.

Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

My new color Nook doesn't seem to hold a charge when not in use for a week or so.  It shows fully charged when I unplug it from charger, shut it down, and a week later, when I want to use it, the battery is too low to even open it up?  I have selected turn your nook power off.  What gives?  How can it be losing power when it is off?  I don't have the wi-fi on either. I always turn that off when not using that feature.   Is it a faulty battery or a fault operator?

Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

Is that why my nook only holds a charge for one day?  I've only had it since Christmas and it is not holding a charge.  I've been charging it every day.  :smileysad:

Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

Even cellphones use power when they are turned off.  That's what keeps the clock running.  I would guess the Nook is the same.

Are you sure you are turning your nook OFF and not just putting it in sleep mode?

Re: What I've learned about Nook batteries

Good God, this is ANOTHER example of how poor B&N tech support is.

How can one tech support person say you CAN overcharge a battery and another say you can't?  It's one or the other people, get your freakin facts straight!  Thank God for Michael V but I'm sad to see he hasn't been on the boards lately.  I wish we would find out what happened.

R:E What I've learned about Nook Batteries

[ Edited ]

I had some worries at first but I found out that you can't charge it too much or overcharge.

It seems to be the trend these days ...

Samsung Garnet Red Galaxy Tab2 (7.0"): Android 4.1.1 rooted
Acer Iconia A500 (two): Android 4.0.3 rooted;; Nook Color: B&N 1.4.3 rooted
Nook Touch (two): B&N 1.2.1 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G (two): B&N 1.7.0 rooted.
Customer loyalty is earned, not commanded or deserved, and easily lost.
Nothing is foolproof, because fools are so ingenious. Same for rooters.
