That's the information B&N stores have been relaying to any customer curious about Nook. That to get yourself a Nookcolor you have to reserve it first. It's a first come first serve basis on the Nookcolor and the only way the stores get ANY stock is by people reserving them. On rare occasions will they have Nookcolors that people didn't pick up, so they may be on sale for public than. But don't count on that. Reserve yours that way you are guranteed one of those suckers when they come in.

Heh. I try to live in the land of logic as well, but being a lawyer, it can be an uphill struggle. This reminds me of a deal i was working on a few years ago. I had drafted a prospectus description that described how a company calculated its number of customers a certain way. The way they did it was completely ridiculous and nonsensical, but that's how they did it, and it was done this way because Italian accounting rules (the company was italian) themselves had some completely nonsensical requirements that led to bizarre disclosure (I swear, half of that 300 page prospectus was explanations and caveats about the vagaries of Italian GAAP).
But when the bankers' lawyers read it, they spent HOURS arguing with me that it had to be wrong because it just made no sense. And I sat down, and patiently explained that I agreed that it made no sense. that it was completely illogical. But all of that was irrelevant in the face of the fact that this is how the company did things. Finally, company management came into the negotiating room and confirmed that I was right.
That was a fun day!

Take it as this, maybe they're having a few problems or glitches with the new patch, and instead of giving us a glitched patch, they're working on it to make sure it'll work right on launch. Its like Blizzard (yes I'm a WoW player XD) They may take forever with a new game, but thats because they wanna do it right before launch. So I'd rather wait for a fully functional patch than a half baked one that was rushed out.

I am also a WoW player! And I agree, I would rather wait for a good patch, but this waiting is tough.
It is tough but at least it'll work when it comes out.
