eBooks as Gifts

Kobo has joined Amazon in offering the option of giving an eBook as a gift.  So, now we can give EPUBs to other Nook owners, as well as other EPUB readers -- hooray!  :smileyvery-happy:

Time to play catch-up again, B&N.

Re: eBooks as Gifts

I'm actually fine with just giving Gift Cards and letting people buy the book they want...

Re: eBooks as Gifts

I'm always baffled when a store offering electronic format whatevers does not immediately upon launch have a way to buy an item for another registered account.

Re: eBooks as Gifts

I think it's ridiculous that we can easily LEND a book to a different account, but can't BUY one for someone else's account.

I would love to buy my husband some specific ebooks for his collection and surprise him, a gift card is NOT the same thing!

Amazon can do it, and now, I hear Kobo... BN, time to catch up please!

To be pedantic — one of the things that I do best — Kobo was the first bookseller to announce e-book giving (November 17 of last year), and Amazon followed suit two days later. It took Kobo a little longer to get theirs available; it was December 6th.

If I remember correctly (and I might not) B&N actually announced they would be adding the ability to gift eBooks at about this time last year, but never delivered on the announcement.

Given the amount of time it is taking retailers to add this frequently requested feature, there must be some difficulty in implementing it that I don't understand.

Sorry I missed your post at the time -- if I recalled it, I never would have duplicated, especially with erroneous content.  Fortunately, everyone else who missed it/forgot it can benefit from my error.  :smileywink:

Re: eBooks as Gifts

I have never given an eBook as a gift.  I have given books... I guess not all my friends who read have e-Readers.  It is a great idea though, but I think I would rather give a gift certificate and let them choose their own books.

Re: eBooks as Gifts

Although giving a gift card is a good idea.  For someone like me where my family is in another state, it would be cool to give someone a book that I know they will like electronically.  No postage, no handlng, they don't have to worry about the check out process.  They load up their nook and the new book they requested is there.  How sweet!!

I think the key here is that the receiver has already told us the specific book they want.

I think this is BNs way of doing what amazon and kobo apparantly do.

Alan you just have to take all the fun out of gift giving; Giving someone something they don't want.:smileywink:

If you were my parent I probably wouldn't have discovered underwear, socks and ties until well into my middle age.

I hope you're only referring to underwear, socks and ties from the gift perspective... :smileywink:

Re: eBooks as Gifts

What's more, now you can send e-cards to your loved ones Nooks. Just did a quick search on BN site and there is a lot of Valentine's Day cards there:
