Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

A Convenient Feature with Shelves

[ Edited ]

I'm sure that I'm not the first to notice this, but I haven't seen it posted anywhere, so it seems worth a note:  you can put a book on more than one shelf.  Let's see a DTB do that!  :smileyvery-happy:

I've created several shelves by author, and I recently created a new one, "To Read Next", so I wouldn't lose track of the books I want to read soon.  After moving (far too many!) books to the "To Read Next" shelf, I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the books on that shelf were still on their Author shelf, as well.

Whether B&N intended it or not, it's a nice feature.

It's because they are using tags or something similar to tags rather than folders.  With folders, you are limited to placing an item in a single folder or having multiple copies in various folders.  You can place multiple tags on items, which allows you to sort and search in various different ways.

You're absolutely correct.  You're not the first one to notice it.  :smileywink:

You MAY be the first one to post about it though... :smileytongue:

Nah, it was in the original announcement of the update.  A few of us discussed it there - and then I know that I wasn't the only one to note that I had books on three or four different shelves in one of the "Shelves - how are you using them?" threads.

It must be the years catching up.  :smileysurprised:

@AlanNJ

@Ya_Ya

In that case, just consider it a post for those of us in the Slow Class.

You Cool Kids, move it along -- nothing to see here for you. :smileytongue:
