We just purchased a NOOKcolor and have trouble connecting to the internet. We use a Netgear wireless router that the Nook recognizes and sometimes connects to successfully . However, most of the time we get the message "connected, but no internet". When we do get an internet connection it isn't reliable. Our laptop and my iPhone connect with no problems. Any advice is welcome.
Thanks

Discussed many times here ... try typing "connected no internet" in the search box at the top of the page.

Better answers might be fond in this forum Denny: http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/NOOKcolor-T
Its specific to the color nook.

Hi NookGuy,
I know you are trying to help, but typing "connected no internet" yields several threads which aren't helpful and show no clear solution. If you know a solution, can you please be more specific.
My situation is I have a Netgear Wireless N-Router WNR2000. I've completely opened up the router by setting security to none and deactivating security access control list, i.e. anyone can to connect. In fact, the Nook does connect, but after its test, it says "Connected, but no internet". Disappointing to say the least.

Here are instructions for getting a WNR2000v2 working with the "classic" NOOK: http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/NOOK-Techni
By the way, one person reported that setting "WPA-PSK[TKIP] + WPA2-PSK[AES]" confused NOOK on its initial attempt to make a connection. The work-around was to pick one (WPA2), have the NOOK connect, then switch back to the either/or choice.

The problem lies within the question. The nook is openly not supported with Wireless N routers. Try switching from N to B or G and let us know if that works.

I wanted to let everyone know that I have fixed my "Connected, but no internet" problem. I went into my router settings and set the MODE to "Up to 54 Mbps". It was at "Up to 300 Mbps".
Finally, a funny but true story. I had my wife take the Nook into Barnes&Noble to use their WiFi to make sure it wasn't broken, and to also ask a tech for help. His reason for why it wasn't working at home was "your router is probably full." Thank goodness I didn't have to open it up and empty out the extra stuff that was inside making it full!!! ![]()

Wow, I would have expected Nook Color to hand up to 300. (802.11N)
How old is that router of yours? Is it one of those early Netgear routers when 802.11N first came out?

It should work at "Up to 145 Mbps" also.

I tried the all the other suggestions that were posted But here is what worked for me.
I did not change the wireless settings. (Mode, Channel, Security option) - I use the WPA-PSK with password protection.
Currently using a Netgear Rangemax Wireless Router - Model WPN824v3 & I already uploaded the Nook software update manually.

FYI, The WMM (Wi-Fi Multi-Media) controls what has priority when using network bandwith. It only works if the device that you are connecting with is compatible. ie. Nook, Blackberry ,etc.....
Good Luck!

The only things I haven't tried are the "reduce from 300 to 54..." and "log into the router..." solutions. I would like to try these, but have no idea how to login to our router, or get to its settings. Can anyone let me know how to do this? I had to go find a WiFi with no password on it to get my NookColor registered. I can connect to the Internet fine ... but as soon as I look at "My Library" or "Web," the internet connection drops. I know this because I can ping the IP address assigned to my Nook device on my MAC, using Terminal, and it pings steadily away until I try to actually use the Nook...then it quits pinging...and when I look at Wireless again I get the *&(@$^& "connected but no internet."
My old Nook (non-color) connects to the Internet just fine. I was going to give it to my daughter. But if I can't get this color nook going, I'm going to return it as non-usable.

@BetsyCO:
Anyone geeky enough to know about ping should be able to find her router manual either in paper form or pdf form on the web. ![]()
Hint: Its as simple as pointing your web browser at the default gateway IP in most cases.

Never mind my post. I found a link in the discussion above that told me how to access my router. The NookColor works when I set to 54, but won't work with 145 or 300. Hopefully, this change won't slow anything else down. Right now just happy I can finally use the da**ed thing! (I would hope in future this limitation of the NookColor will be upgraded.)

Thanks...I did figure it out...but it's late here; I'm tired. (Will that excuse do?) It was just open a browser with 192.168.1.1 and there the router was. And yes, I'm a Java programmer, so I know that excuse isn't a good one. ![]()

Unless you have a smoking fast internet connection, 54 will be fast enough. It only has to be faster than your ISP provides you.
Where you might see a slow down is from one computer to another computer on your wireless.
I'm at a loss as to why the COLOR nook should have a probem with 145 or 300. They did say it was 802.11N. Maybe there is a software update coming that will fix this.

After two weeks of trying to connect to my Netgear WPN824 V3 router and two calls to Nook customer service and one call to Netgear (who by the way wanted to charge me $36.95 for thirty minutes of help, of which I declined) I finally got our two NC's to work with our internet.
Here is what I did:
I connected my laptop directly to our router, just in case I lost the internet when I made my changes.
I logged into my netgear router www.routerlogin.com, entered the password
I preceeded to follow the directions that WolfwomanTX listed in her post ( in the QOS setup I UNCHECKED the Enable WMM Wifi multi-media settings box)
I did loose the internet on the other wireless laptops in the house
Went back and changed the settings BACK to the original settings and got the internet back, and the NC connected and stayed connected to the internet.
Two days so far and no problems, I do not know what happened that it suddenly now can connect and I did not change any settings. Maybe just temporarily changing the setting and then changing them back to the original setting woke the darn thing up.
Here are my settings :
Channel: 9
Mode: b and g
Security: WEP
Authentication Type: Automatic
Encryption Strenght: 64 bit
QOS set up: I have the box checked for Enable WWM (Wifi multimedia settings)
I hope that the two NC's we have will remain connected, but who knows, for now they are working. I hope this helps those struggling to connect.

Thanks for this thread - just got my NookColor and could not get it to connect. Lots of bad info out there.
Just slowed my connection and it worked just fine
