Daily won't update

This morning The Daily wouldn't update.  I do not have WiFi at home, so I use 3G.  This has never been a problem.

 

I followed the same procedure as always this morning:  Turn on the Nook, turn off airplane mode, check that WiFi is also off, go to The Daily, check 3G signal strength, wait for update to happen.

 

3G signal strength was 3-4 bars, but nothing happened.

 

I went to My Library and tried downloading new content that I had purchased yesterday, but not downloaded.  It downloaded just fine, so I returned to The Daily.  Signal strength was still 3-4 bars.  Nothing.

 

I downloaded today's free eBook and returned to The Daily.  Nothing.

 

I usually update The Daily on Monday, for my New Yorker subscription, and Friday.  I've only had the Nook a couple of weeks, so it is possible that I have forgotten a crucial step sine I last updated on Monday.  Did I?  :smileysad:

I had the same problem this morning and I have Wi-Fi.  I finally shut off my Nook and restarted it.  It updated my daily fine after that.

Sometimes the Daily can be finicky, and you just have to keep trying.

Thanks for the responses. I'm sorry that others have had similar problems, but misery does love company. :smileywink: I'll just be patient and try again later.

Yes, just now. 

 

Quick question/thought:  My battery charge was at just above 20% this morning when I turned my Nook on.  It had no problems with my other downloads, but could this have caused a problem with the Daily update?  I charged the battery before I accomplished the Daily update just now.

 

Thanks, again, for the support.  You administrators and Nook owner/posters are wonderful.  I love my Nook!

Yes, the battery could be the problem. As noted in the NOOK manual, when the battery is low the wireless may be disabled.

Had same problem more than once shut nook off than back it should be ok for a while

I have had my Nook for a couple weeks now and the daily has never updated for me.  I have the wifi on and have tried turning the Nook on and off.....

I've had my nook for about a month and it has updated once.  And that one time seemed pretty random and spontaneous.  All I did was turn on wifi one day and it was all updated.  That was about a week after I had it.  Before and since that one day all that's there is the Dave Barry New Nook article.  Though occasionally the date on the article changes.  It currently says 9/13/10.  The date before that was 8/30/10, I think.  And I turn wifi on once a day and wait a bit just on the chance it might be the day it finally updates.  

Oh, I've rebooted it several times and even had it in a B&N.  I didn't think to ask at the nook desk why it doesn't update.  Maybe I will next time I'm in by myself.

I turned it off and held down the power button to the count of 25.  When I turned it back on, I got *yesterday's* feeds for the Daily stuff.  Dave Berry's article now has *today's* date.

 

Still, I at least have the content.  :smileytongue:

I have had my Nook for about 4 months and I have only had anything on my Daily 2 different times. I have tried updating, shutting it off and turning it back on and nothing seems to work. Are you suppose to receive notification of Free Fridays on the Daily as well? Sure wish mine worked.

I just discovered something interesting about my Daily.  It has only updated once since I bought my nook in August, only ever showed Dave Barry.  Nothing I did worked.  But I was in BN on Friday and it updated right away.  The next day I checked at home to see if it was still there and it was back to just Dave Barry.  So, apparently, my Daily only updates at BN.  I have a Wifi only nook and the Wifi works fine.  I buy books on it, can use use the web browser, etc, at home, just not update The Daily.  Oh well, at least I know it works. At BN.

Try these steps:First, hold down the power button for about 20 seconds so that your NOOK powers off. Then hold the power button for about 2-4 seconds and allow your NOOK to fully boot up.  Also make sure that your Wifi is connected/on. 

 Then tap on my library and tap on Check for new B&N content.

Then go back and tap on "the daily".  Tap on Show and tap on All (even if it is already chosen).

 Please let me know if you have the latest Daily.

I haven't seen Dave Barry's article on my nook for a few weeks - is it gone forever now?  My nook shows NOOK Tips dated 4/24/10 under the "Getting to know your nook" section.  This messages lets me know that version 1.4 is now available - and I've had it installed on my nook since late April...

I've had my Nook for a week and can't get the Daily to load either. It has done it a couple of times. I have tried all the suggestions on here. Today it has the right date but only shows Dave Berry. I have turned it off ( held down the button for 30 seconds, turned it on, checked for new content, went back to Daily and hit "show all". Still nothing. Yes, WiFi is on and working.

My Daily still only works at a B&N.  It's very strange.  I go in to a B&N, tap The Daily with wifi on, and works every time.  Try it at home and it never works, even when I go through all the steps I've ever read here, multiple times.  That just manages to change the date on Dave Barry.  I've just learned to live with it since nothing really important is on The Daily anyway.  And I try to get in to a B&N every couple weeks for my relaxing away from the kids time.  I haven't tried to see if I can get it to work on other wifis, just home and B&N.  Maybe I'll try a Starbucks next time I get a kid-free outing to check it out. I don't understand why it wouldn't work here.  The browser and shop functions all work perfectly, it's just The Daily.

With the understanding that the steps above may have already been performed, when you do go to the Daily and tap on Show and All leave it on that screen for a few moments and items should begin updating.

Tried everything suggested to get to Nook to update this morning....nothing worked. I left it alone for several hours and tried again and  I got the Daily to update, but when I started to read the Daily, the Nook froze...I just can't win. I rebooted it and it's working now... wondering if I might have got one of the few lemons or if it will get better after I've had it a while? (This is the 4th time it's froze on me in the week I've had it...I know...I'm on the wrong feed now.
