Daylight Savings Time

Okay, so here we are on the first day of Daylight Savings Time.  I can't find anywhere in my Nook to update the new time.  Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Re: Daylight Savings Time

Odd, mine updated automatically, even with airplane mode ON (i.e. no wireless or cellular connection at all).  If yours didn't update, you might try forcing a connection to B&N (go to your library and select the update content button on the LCD screen).

My nook updated automatically.  I was quite impressed...since airplane mode was ON when I went to bed last night.

The user guide (p.148) says that time zones can be set manually in 'Settings'... here are the instructions from the guide:

Time zone in which you use your nook.

• If you are in an area with B&N Fast & Free Wireless coverage, you do not need to choose a time zone. Your nook detects the time zone from the wireless network.

• If you are in an area without B&N Fast & Free Wireless coverage, choose a time zone from the menus. The time in the status bar will be displayed in the local time adjusted for the time zone.

• If you choose a time zone from the menus, and then travel somewhere with B&N Fast & Free Wireless coverage, your nook will switch to the time zone indicated by the wireless network connection.

• If you travel back to an area without coverage, choose the time zone again.

Hope this helps! :smileyhappy:

That would be the expected behavior.

You nooks clock is set via the network, (probably to GMT), and then the hour

is biased by your timezone setting.  Once set, you don't need anything from

the network any more.

Setting DLST is a standard practice in Linux/Android/Windows/Mac computers, so I too am a little puzzled as to why the OP decided it needed setting.

Dale?

Why do you think you had to do this?  Everybody elses nook did this automatically?

Re: Daylight Savings Time

My Nook did not reset to DLST, and when I went to settings and again selected my time zone, it took away another hour, so now my Nook is two hours behind!!!  Restarting, updating content, nothing else has worked.

Re: Daylight Savings Time

Turn off airplane mode for a while.

Re: Daylight Savings Time

Because mine did not update automatically.  I had to connect to B&N and around 11:00 am it finally updated the time.  I do have it set on EST.

Re: Daylight Savings Time

My nook is not updating the new time as well.  Could it be cause I'm in Canada?

Re: Daylight Savings Time

If you have your time zone set correctly, and connect via WIFI (probably your only choice) It should update automatically.  The nook doesn't know where it is.

Thanks icebike.  I've tried that but no luck.  :smileysad:

_Ames_ : you're not alone.  I'm in ET, and my clock is still an hour behind.  I've turned off airplane mode, tried pushing an update, and turned off and restarted.  Software is up to date.  I can set to Atlantic standard to compensate, but wish it would update on it's own.

Re: Daylight Savings Time

The problem with mine is that the correct time zone isn't even an option. Everything is still standard time (Central Standard Time)... CDT is nowhere to be found.

Re: Daylight Savings Time

I am having the same problem here in KY (EST), I have 5 bar for the wireless connection and also can connect to my internet at home still no update for the time. I too have tried to push an update to no avail. New nook purchased on Sunday the 14th. Software is up to date. Sound like a software problem to me.

Re: Daylight Savings Time

Three days in and mine still has not reset.  I have tried checking for new content with 3G and wifi, numerous restarts, even bought a new eBook.  I have changed my time zone from mountain to central as a workaround, but it is puzzling that it didn't change automatically.

Re: Daylight Savings Time

Also in KY and nothing is happening.  I am going to wait until weekend after next and see if it updates then.  2 Years ago, the US decided to change the date of when DLST begins and moved it back two weeks from when Ben Franklin determined it, so I know a lot of computers are having this problem.  I'm guessing it'll change when it was orgininally supposed to.

Re: Daylight Savings Time

Swede1340, that's what I did - set the time zone to Atlantic Standard as a work around.

Weirder and Weirder.....

I live on the west coast, and had my timezone set to Pacific timezone previously.

My nook changed to daylight saving time just fine.

BUT:  Now when I look, the time zone is set to Mountain time.  Apparently, the nook just does a timezone shift for daylight saving time.

I wonder if this is some Android thing, or what.  Its not by any means standard for Linux on which android is based.

It's not that simple

I just checked mine. It is displaying the correct EDT time and the setting is GMT - 5 Eastern Standard Time.

I am in Mountain Time and my nook clock adjusted for Daylight Savings fine and is still set to Mountain Standard Time.
