Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Do Bookmarks, Highlights, etc sync between devices

Hello,

Just curious if bookmarks and/or highlighting and/or notes are synchronized between multiple devices on the SAME B&N account.

Thank you.

B&N says it's coming. I believe that "farthest point read" synchronizes between NOOK and iPhone, but don't quote me on that.

At the moment, not too much syncs on the NOOK. A number of people have shared B&N accounts, and synchronization (whenever it happens) is going to cause them some annoyance.

Nope!  it doesn't!  It's getting to be enough to make me sell my nook and buy a Kindle, in fact!  I use both my nook and my iPhone to read quite frequently, and the lack of a synch is a HUGE gap in the featureset, but they spent time adding CHESS and SUDOKU?

It's a question of priorities, I guess. Amazon likes playing "Big Brother"; it has the Kindle continuously report where it's located and what it's being used for. Amazon knows exactly what you're reading, when you're reading it, and where you're reading it, and presumably is collecting all of that information.

There is a rumor that the reason that Amazon and Penguin haven't come to terms on the Agency Model is that Penguin wants access to that data.

Still, Amazon is nothing like where Google wants to be. You don't need to be in the 'tin-foil hat' crowd to be concerned about Google's goals.

Re: Do Bookmarks, Highlights, etc sync between devices

IIRC, there are currently a number of people who are very upset with Amazon right now due to the fact that they apparently recently announced a new feature for their online store.

The new feature? Basically, they share your bookmarks and highlights with the world....

This information is supposedly stripped of personal info, but it has or will have a number of folks up in arms over it.

Re: Do Bookmarks, Highlights, etc sync between devices

To me, it make sense to add a check box in the setup of the B&N account that allows the user to select it in order to synchronize the notes, highlights, bookmarks across the devices on that account.  If you have two different family members using the same account, but different devices, then they very well may not want the notes, etc. synchronized and therefore they could leave the this feature turned off.

Re: Do Bookmarks, Highlights, etc sync between devices

I heartily agree! It seemed that the project managers for Nook were more interested in proving the versatility of the device than improving its fundamental function as an eReader! It would be an interesting survey to see how many users actually play the games and use the browser (which I think is a PITA to use!) But, every bleeping one of us use Nook as an eReader!

The failure to add multi-device sync in 1.3 was a stupid decision, especially as it isn't that hard to implement!

Re: Do Bookmarks, Highlights, etc sync between devices

1.3 absolutely has multi-device sync.

The problem is that most of the other software for reading books from B&N has not yet been updated to include the sync feature (in particular the iphone app), so there's nothing for the nook to sync with.

This is not a nook problem.  This is a problem with everything else.
