Downloading ebooks from digital library

I previously had a Sony ereader that allowed me to download ebooks from a local digital library system.  Can I do this with my new nook?  Also how can I share books with friends?

Re: Downloading eBooks from digital library

My newbie experience with the NOOK finds it a little trickier to use for library downloads.  I also had a SONY reader where the library books downloaded into a SONY reader file to be transferred to the ereader.  Now you have to set up Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to receive the books if you don't already have one.  In setting up, you will need to authorize or register the NOOK and then it works pretty much the same way - as long as you know (unlike me) that you have to have the NOOK plugged into your computer (same as SONY).  I can't believe I've gone from tearing my hair out to offering help - you can teach old dogs new tricks.

The entire procedure is described in detail in the post in my signature about library books.

Sony has ADE authorization in the firmware.
