Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Has anyone set up an account using preloaded credit card?

I know these "credit cards" that you buy in the grocery store don't have a billing address so I'm wondering if they will work to set up an account?  I asked in the B&N store a few months ago when I started thinking about getting a nook for my niece and they told me you could. I searched the boards and found some questions about this but never a definite answer.

Thanks for your help!

do a search for "prepaid visa card" on the boards and you'll find plenty of information on how these work.

I believe it needs to be a card you can attach a billing address to.  As the pp said, there has been a lot of discussion about this, so a search of the boards should provide some answers.

See this link:  http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/NOOK-Technical-Support/Child-acct-don-t-want-to-have-default-...

I apologize - somewhere in the middle people were a little grumpy, but I've linked to a poster who got an AMEX gift card to use as the credit card on the account and it all worked.

Thanks so much!  I did a search but I guess I got frustrated about halfway through that particular thread and didn't make it to the end where there was actually an answer.  I appreciate your help!

You're very welcome.

I was worried about exactly what you said - that you'd found the thread but quit reading it because of the negativity and wouldn't find the info you needed.
