Help with library books

Hello all-

I am having trouble finding my library books on my Nook (1st edition)-they are not showing up in "My Documents"  although they can be seen on the "Nook" shelf in Adobe DIgital Editions.  These are the actions I have taken so far:

-made sure my login & password for Adobe are the same as my Barnes & Noble account

-installed/uninstalled ADE

-manually removed ADE files from Nook

-rebooted Nook

-dragged library book from "Borrowed" shelf to "Nook" shelf

-copy and pasted book into "My Documents"

-tapped on "Check for new content"

-insured Nook software is updated

 Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with library books

Firstyour Adobe password and Adobe account do not have to be the same as your Barnes and Noble account. Books from the library have to be side loaded to your Nook from within ADE. You should be able to see the Nook icon lower left corner of ADE screen drag the book to the Nook icon.

Re: Help with library books

Depending on the forum you read or the support center you go to, you may be told that Adobe and B & N login/password must be the same. In any case, it doesn't hurt to keep them the same. If you read my original post, you would see that I have used ADE to sideload, using the drag and drop feature, and I am still unable to see the books in My Documents on the Nook. Any other suggestions or snide remarks?

Is this a new problem?  Have you been able to see library books before on the Nook?  I'm sure you know how to tell which library you are in, but just to check, are you sure you're in My Documents on the Nook?  The reason I ask is that I've helped several people who were actually in the BN library when they thought they were in My Documents.

What view are you in?

Do you have a lot of books in My Documents?

Are any books loading into My Documents?

When you connect the Nook to the computer, if you go to the Nook Drive in Windows Explorer, can you see the book files that way?

One thing to try:  Remove all of the library books you just added from the Nook.  Delete them off the Nook itself.  Add them back one at a time and see if you can see any.  There have been issues with a corrupt book preventing the Nook from properly indexing.

Other than that, I can't think of anything else off at this point.

As an FYI, your Adobe and B&N passwords do not have to be the same, mine aren't.  In fact, my mom is set up with my ADE account and she loads library books to her Nook which is on a completely different B&N account.

So my explaining the true facts is snide. Excuse me but your advise that you should have the same password on two different web accounts defies common sense. You should never use the same passowrd on more than one account. Your account gets hacked and then all of the accounts using the same password are then compromised.

I've never used ADE,,, but I would just connect the nook to the computer via the USB cable and then side load the files manually.

As soon as you seen the nook as a device drive on your computer drop them into the My documents folder on the nook. My Nook shows up as "Removable Disk(E:smileyhappy:" :

Be sure to Right click this drive in "My Computer" and properly "eject" the drive before removing the USB cable. I have read and experienced this same problem when I did not follow this one step. I sideload nearly all of my content and while I had many problems before; I have not had any problems after I started "ejecting" the drive before disconnecting.

I hope this helps!

Sorry about the smiley face. It is supposed to be an E colon!

This point can not be emphasized strongly enough.  If you do not properly eject the Nook, it doesn't update its library properly, and you tend not to see new content.

Books from the library have copy protection on them and have to be sideloaded through ADE. when you download a file from the library it is an ascm file, that has to be opened in ADE.

Re: Help with library books

Excuse me for asking; are these Library books from a public library? I didn't even know that was available.

Re: Help with library books

I have tried side loading manually without using ADE; books and documents still do not show up.

I always use the "Eject" function, so I know that is not the problem.

Re: Help with library books

Yes, from my local library. Most libraries have a digital collection now. There are also digital libraries on line that you can borrow from. Nice service . . . if I could actually read a borrowed book on my NOOK!

What version OS are you running? Have you installed a microSD card?

I take this as removing both the .adobe-digital-editions and Digital Editions folders?

If so, I'm stumped.  Sorry.

Re: Help with library books

Yes, I removed the two folders. I read on a forum, and then B & N support told me, that removing both would deauthorize the device allowing me to essentially start from scratch. Did it twice with no luck.

I am so frustrated by this. The process to side load is not that difficult. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. Ughh!

Can you see other new files that you put into My documents? For example copy a PDF file to My Documents. If you cannot see any new file that you put into My Documents than it could be that a corrupt file is preventing the Nook from indexing the My Documents folder correctly.

If that is the case, delete all files in the My Documents folder, than  search for new content to build a correct index. After that start with just putting your Library books into the My Documents folder, than search for new content to update the index.

Re: Help with library books

Can you see other new files that you put into My documents?  No, I can't see anything that I have loaded-docs or books. I started with a book, then tried a document to see if I could get that to work. Still nothing. I have loaded and unloaded different docs and books (one at a time to be sure file not corrupt), but I still can't see anything.

You could try a reset to the default factory firmware. This will delete all content on your Nook. You will have to update the fimware to the latest version after this. And download all content again.

See "how to do a manual restore", last item on the following link:
