Got a new nook with 1.2 firmware.
The highlighting and note facility doesn't work in Amasis Extra Small. It seems to work okay* in other fonts and in other sizes of Amasis.
Also, if you switch to Amasis Extra Small while reading an eBook, all of the highlights and notes seem to be removed from the eBook. They don't come back when you switch to a different font/size. Maybe we can call this a feature: "remove all highlights and notes".
* for a lax definition of 'work okay'. The "highlight a single word" feature doesn't work, and I have to start the highlighting on the word before the first word to be highlighted.

I tried with the other sizes of Amasis and it worked (in its bizarre fashion). I tried with both of the other font faces in the Extra Small size and it worked (in its bizarre fashion). Amasis Extra Small is the only combination I've tried that fails to allow any highlighting or notes.
I didn't try all 15 combinations of faces and sizes, but it's pretty clear to me that there's something quirky about Amasis Extra Small that wipes out highlighting and notes.
And it does, at least on the face of it, seem to be "wiping them out". It'll let me set highlighting, and it'll let me type in a note, but neither are retained when I press "Submit". And if I have highlights and/or notes already set in a document and then switch to Amasis Extra Small, those highlights and notes are permanently deleted.
The above was mainly tried with B&N content. I can't guarantee that all of it's fully applicable to sideloaded content, but I did try setting highlighting and notes in Amasis Extra Small on a sideloaded ePub, and the highlighting and notes didn't "take" there, either.

Wow. That's a screwup of the first order.
I bet a lot of people never discover this because they switch to Helvitica for readability within the first week and never switch back.
Since we can't be sure the Developers ever actually read this board, I would send an email to CS with a request to have it forwarded to the proper people.
