I don't want a simple touch, i want my 1st edition to work!!! (screen problem)

So my NOOK 1st edition is having the same shadow\line issues with the screen as many people are having... I never dropped it or anything.

  I went into the B&N store where I purchased it, the girl at the counter called customer service and (due to my warranty being over) they offered me a NOOK simple touch (pre-owned) for $30.  I do feel this is a great deal... however, I am very partial to the N1E, due to the 3G capabilities, and the fact that I have a cover with a light ($50) and another hard cover for it ($35)... which the simple touch will not fit into. 

I am very angry that since so many people are having this issue, there is not a recall.  They said it was probably because I left it on when not using it, and used it so often... isn't that what it says to do?  And did I not buy it to use often?  I want my original NOOK to work again!!!

Even if there were a recall, all B&N could do is offer a NOOK Simple Touch Reader in exchange. The N1e production lines were shut down a year ago. They can't build any more, and they don't have any more for exchanging, not even refurbished units.

Your best bet is probably to find someone who wants to sell their old unit. Maybe the store people can keep an eye out for people who are upgrading and want to sell their old N1e.

This is very annoying. I'm having the same problems in the lower left hand of the screen. All tips from B&N are useless. What do I do now?

With an N1E you're not going to find a replacement (at least through BN since they stopped producing it). I would suggest bringing it in and seeing if they still offer an exchange for a N2E or try and find one on Ebay.
